Greetings. I am looking for the parents of my great Grandfather, Edvard Nielsen who was born in Norway abt 1842 and died in Hull, Yorkhire, England on 6 April 1917. He married my great Grandmother in Glasgow, Scotland on 21 October 1867. They had sons, Niels, Edward, John Henry and Harold Reginald and daughters, Christina, Hannah Sopia and Ada. This may indicate that Edvard's parents were Niels and Christina. He appears in the 1871 Scots census as Edward Nealson. I have located possible parents in Niels Ellevsen and Christi Jensdatter who lived in Askvoll, Sogn og Flordane (IGI film 126372, batch C42260-3). Please could anyone assist me with my search. Kind regards. Bren

Edvard Nilesen you found born in Askvoll April 18. 1842, parents "Fanejunker" Master Sergeant Niels Ellevesen and Christi Jensdatter.

The father died before 1865, the widow Christi Jensdatter on Kjøsnæstangen in Yttre Holmsdal parish, todays Fjaler (borders have changed) in 1865 with 3 sons,Jens, Martin and Edvard.

There is a problem;
Edvard Nilsen, schoolteacher, was married to Grete Ellingsdatter and had a son Niels Edvardsen age 2.

Was he a widower when he married in Glasgow?

Serious trouble: Schoolteacher Edvard Nilsen had a daughter Jensine Kristine in Norway Feb 4. 1873

What about a Methodist teacher from Sarpsborg? 1865 census. He was born June 24. 1842 in Rakkestad

Greetings. No this can't be my Edvard Nielsen then. My Edvard was not a school teacher. Oh well the search continues! Many thanks for taking time to help me out.

What church did he belong to when he married in 1867?
I think about the Edvard Nilsen from Sarpsborg
He does not have to be a school teacher, He was teaching in the congregation. The Methodists was a small minority in Norway. I think several of the members had English connection.

Peder. That's my great Grandfather. Hasto, his marriage was "irregular". The date of the marriage is on the birth certificates of his son Edward and daughter Christina. There is no marriage certificate as I have confirmed that fact with a lady in Edinburgh, Scotland who works with Scotland's People.

I have an interesting candidate, but there are some ifs.

Edvard Nikolai Nilsen born in Hemnes Sept. 3. 1842.
Parents; Nils Jensen Dalosen and Adrianna Andersdatter, see #73

Hemnes

Edvard left Hemnes Mai 5. 1864, he volunteered on the Danish side in the war against Germany (Lasted from Feb. 1. - July 20. 1864), see right page #8

What happened later to Edvard I do not know.

Edvard Nilsen Dalosen returned to Norway.
He em. to USA from Bergen Mai 19. 1866 on ship Adler with 281 emigrants, dest Quebeck.
There exist no passengerlist from this journey, the reason is that Adler stranded in the St. Lawrence.
All were saved.

What happened to this Edvard Nilsen ?

Did he jump ship on the British isles ?
Did he return to Europe ?
Is he just another dead end ?
