- no, the family emigrated in 1871 (Oles age is wrong - should have been 9)

Ragnhilds grandparents, (Jens Samuelsens parents) were married Nov 2 1837, see #33.
Samuel Torchelsen was then 18 years and Anna Roarsdatter was 26 years.

Anna Roarsdatter must have died before 1848 since Samuel was a widower when he married Martha Olsdatter that year, see family in 1865.

Samuel Torkelsen was born at Houge March 14 1820, see 8th record on left page. His parents were Torkel Berget (Samuelsen) and Kari Halversdatter.

Anna Roarsdatters parents, Roar Jensen, Næsset and Kirsti Evensdatter, Bergstølen were married June 23 1805, see 8th couple on right page.

They arrived in Quebec, on the ship SS Austrian, 19 June 1871. They are on sheet 4 of the manifest, scroll down to #1182:

The Minnesota 1895 1885 census shows the complete family. So Jens is still alive, which means Rachel(Raghnild) married Charles Blomberg after 1895 1885.
Have you spent any time at the County Clerks Offices looking for the dates you need?

Can you tell me what names were used for the 1900 Census?

ok- jens died 1907.10.28 in chicago.
karen died 1920.04.11 in chicago.
caroline died 1936.07.12 in chicago.
anna died 1938.02.08 in chicago.

i have no idea when ragnhild died.

she is listed in 1900 through 1930 census' as living in chicago. the 1930 census shows her living with her daughter olive, her husband their two sons. household is wallis franklin/olive/paul and franklin and blomberg/rachel j (her middel name was jensine).

olive's husband franklin died in 1938.05.04 in chicago. olive died in april of 1982 in chicago. her son paul died 1999.01.02 in chicago. i am not sure when or where the other son, franklin jr died.

lester- i don't know how i missed your reply! sorry!

so, no- i have not been to the county clerks office; i have no idea how to even do that! i am in boston, they were in minnesota/chicago, so it would be bit difficult for me.

the 1900 census shows the family living in chicago: jens, karen, caroline, ragnhild and olive.

i have everyone's death information except ragnhild's. i have everyone's birth information except olive's.

any direction you can point me in would be appreciated! thank you!

Hilsen,
Todd

Here is the web site for Cook County Death Certificates from the County Clerks Office: http://www.cookcountyclerk.com/vitalrecords/genealogy/Pages/default.aspx
Have you tried to contact any of Robert J Berg's children? He had a very large family, and stayed in Crookston, MN per the last 1930 census.

There is a personal family treee started on Ancestry.com for Robert J. Berg, But the info seems to be gathered from the US censuses. You probably have more information than the subscriber.

Lester - thank you again!

I have to check Mount Olive Cemetery again- it's possible that Ragnhild is buried there, and I can find out her date of death. Actually she had bought plots for her patents and her sisters, and they are buried there. She used to go by Rachel, so that confused me, but now at I know Rachel=Ragnhild, I'll check again.

Can you tell me which member has the tree for Robert Berg?

Thank you!

Jens, Karen, and the children, also can be found in the Minnesota 1875 census. He is indexed as John S. Berg. Karen;s name is hard to read, and the census taker spelled his name as Jhon.

Ragnild is now Rosa.
