I`m searching for my wifes fathers aunt, Johanne Lucie Larsen, born september 12 in 1900 in Ibestad, Norway. She came to New York in november 1924. She left Norway to marry a man from Brooklyn, whom she met in Norway. We believe he was a local business man. They married in a Norwegian chuch in Brooklyn early in 1925. The problem is that no one remembers his surname. We know his first name is Edy. They got two children, Kenneth and Mildred. In 1937 they probably lived in Charleston. I hope there is someone who can help locate this family. My wifes family wonder what happened with Johanne and her family. Thank you!

Hi Les!
No, we have been in contact with the Norwegian Seamen church, and they didn`t get married there. There is another researcher in my wifes family, and he is trying to get the records from the Methodist chuch, because he thinks that`s the right church. We`re still waiting to hear from him.
I`ve heard that Johanne died around 1948. Is there any records to search? I don`t know where they lived at that time.
Thank you for your help!

When she arrived in 1924, her destination was her fiancé Adolf Johnsen, 166 Luqueer St, Brooklyn, N.Y.

Hi, Jan Peter!
That can`t be the right Johanne. The woman I`m searching for, married a man named Edy.
But thank you for trying to help me!

It is the right woman. See #17. I believe Eddy could be a nickname from Adolph.

Hi Jan Peter!
My wife couldn`t believe what she was reading. She`s so grateful to you, but she wonder if you can help her to find them in any census in the US, so she might get more information about them and their life together.
Thank you for all your help!

1930 census for Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, have this listing: Adolf Johnson, born 1895, Norway = Edy? wife: Louis Johnson, born 1901 = Lucie ? son: Kenneth Johnson, born 1926
What place of birth are listed for Louis and Kenneth?
Could this be Adolf?

Hi Jan Peter!
It`s not the Adolph we`re looking for. They married in Brooklyn in january/february 1925, and the Adolph in the emigrant protocoll were already married in november 1924.
I`m not sure about the rest. It could be right, because Kenneth had to be born around 1925, because he was in the Navy in october 1945. Mildred, Johannes daughter, had to be born around 1930, because we have a photo of her in Charleston 1937 and she looks around 7 years old.
Thank you for helping!
Christian.

I think you are jumping to the conclusions too fast. The "g" could just be because he signed in as married, even though he was only engaged at the time.
I think he fits in very well. He works on the Steamer, and left Bergen just 6-7 months prior to Johanne.

Why did Johanne leave from Bergen? Did she live there prior to the emigration? Possibly near Årstad, where Adolf is from?
Normally, emigrants from Ibestad would be emigrating from Trondheim...
