"Føderaadsenke" is a compound word -- Look up "Føderaad" and "enke" -

There is a Norwegian book available on microfiche through an LDS Family History Center entited "Hitterdalsboken, gaarde og slegter" by O. H. Holta. It is a genealogy of the people and their farms with some history of Hitterdal now called Heddal in Telemark county. Of course, a book published in Norway is written in Norwegian so also get yourself a good Norwegian-English dictionary. |

The text in the marriage record reads:
"Blew, efter Kongel. allernaadigst Wielse Brew saawelsom Ægteskabs Bewilling copulerede i Huuset, uden foregaaende Forlowelse Sydskend Børnene UngKarl Ambros Gregarsen, Ryen og Pigen Ragnild Jonsdatter, Graver" - i.e.
Ambros and Ragnild were first cousins and a marriage had to be formally approved by letter from the King. In such cases engagement and formal information in the church about a forthcomming marriage was not always practiced.

Hi, Ryen has now taken back the old name Rygi on the farm.
From the Saga;
Raud Rygi was one of the five wealthiest farmers in Heddal, the men on Rygi were tall guys with Reddish beard.

Have you heard the legend of the old log cabin named "Drømsi" from 1200 still standing on Ryen, perhaps used by the carpenters who build the stave church?
In the old house on Ryen there are several old paintings on cabinet doors and inner doors from the 1700 century with religious motifs from the time Gregar and Anlaug Ryen lived there.
Anlaug Ryen was Anlaug Leifsdatter Heibø born July 15. 1739 on farm Heibø, d. on Ryen Feb. 13. 1789, she was Thones sister.
The father Leif Leifsen Heibø was sheriff in Heddal.
Gregar Ryen was Gregar Stenersen Ryen b. Dec. 27. 1721 on Bakka, d. March 21. 1806 on Ryen.
Gregar and Anlaug got 11 children, Ambros Gregarsen who inherited Ryen was 2. oldest son.

Gregar Stenersøn Ryen and Anloug Levsdatter (Heibø) also got royal permission to marry without been engaged in advance on Oct. 5. 1756, see last wedding 1. page here.

Gregar Stenersen Ryen born on Bakka, his parents;
- Stener Halvorsen Mork and Bakka b. Nov. 28. 1686-d. March 29. 1765 and Gunild Olsdatter Holt d. Jan. 1. 1775, married Feb. 25. 1718.
Stener Halvorsen parents;
- Halvor Helgesen Mork 1655-1735 and Margit Stenersdatter Bakka1651-1737.
Margit Stenersdatter´s parents;
- Stener Sondresen Bakka 1620- 64 and Torgun Gregarsdatter Ryen 1625- 87.
Torgun Gregarsdatter´s parents;
- Gregar Halvorsen Ryen 1605-71 and Gunne Halvorsdatter, she lived in 1687.
Gregar Halvorsen´s parents;
- Halvor Ryen mentioned 1645 and 1650 and unknown wife.
His ancetsor is supposed to be Saamund Meland from the 1590 trial.

Jon Graver was Jon Sigurdsen Graver, his wife was Ragnild Torbjørnsdatter, they engaged Mai 30. and married July 18, see left page 4. wedding from bottom here

Jon Sigurdsen Graver was born 1705, bap Dominica Quinqagesima (Carnival Sunday - Feb. 22.) in Lisleherad church, see here.
Not easy to read, 1. page 7 line from top, see
.....Sigurd Gravers Barn (Child) Jon.......
Lisleherad stave church was demolished more than 100 years ago.
Sigurd Graver was Sigurd Jonsen Rui and Graver born 1657, d. on Graver 1733 and buried August 28, age 74.
Note that his grandson (John Gravers son) Harald 6. mths and 2 weeks old was buried on the same day, see 1. page approximately in the middle of the page, starts with: Den 28 Augusti
His wife was Aslaug Thorsdatter b. 1668, she died on Graver, buried Jan 20. 1740, age 72, see right page 6. from top
Sigurds father John Halvorsen Graver lived on Graver from ab. 1645-50 as partowner with his siblings, his son Sigurd Johnsen first settled down on Rui in Tinn before he returned to Heddal and takes over Graver.

the Ryen family is very exiting to explore, also sheriff Leif Leifsen´s wife Thone Ambrosdatter and her acestors, her family goes many generations back.

Ryen can be seen in this map, spell Rygi enter SØK.
The stavechurch is at the mainroad to the left and a back a little.
You will also see Raud Rygis vei (Raud Rygis road)

| Kare, It is special to have the map. Thanks. We went to Norway often until 2 years ago, but never knew of my husband's Norwegian ancestry. Instead we fished on the Gaula River near Storen. But now we have incentive to return. It cannot be this year but maybe next. Best wishes, Pat |
