Does anyone have a location for a farm with the name STORATRE ? I have just discovered that GGF lived on this farm. I presume it must be on Karmøy, his parents were on Stoggdal and most of the family seem to be from farms in the northern part of Karmøy. I have a relative on the island but she and her family also don't know where this farm was.

Any clues would be a great help.

Storatre was a cotter's farm under Kvalavåg farm in Avaldsnes, (Karmøy municipality).

Hi Neville.
I wonder if perhaps your GGF Ommund Rasmussen or some of his siblings were born on Storatre even the church book says Kvalavåg for Ommund 1848.
The family lived on farm nr 17 Kvalavåg in 1865.

Storatre was settled early in the 1700s, the farm is abandoned.

Thanks for the information. The Omund of 1848 was the grandson son of the Omund Hansen who lived on Stoggdal no 1. Rasmus Omundsen the son born on Stoggdal is listed in the Karmøy book as follows

"Rasmus sitting as a cotter with earth together with his family here at storatre in 1865. He leased storatre in 1844" (translation by google)

Any way to find the exact location of the property?

Hi,
it's hard to pinpoint the exact location of a house/building which are not there anymore. Maybe some local historian or people living in the neighborhood might know, but it looks to be long time ago since the houses existed? Do you have the location in the 1900-census?

I think the location should be in this area:

It is confusing to follow the farms as I just found out that Kvalavåg was renumbered 5 times!

in 1847 it was number 47
in 1838 - 1857 it was 28
in 1851 - 1886 it was no 17
in 1886 - 1965 it was no 16
and since 1965 it has been no 75

would the subdivisions have remained the same or would thay also have been changed? In other words would portion 1, 2 , 3 etc have remained portion one through all the renumbering of the main farm title or where one person aquired several portions would these have been given a new number?

When I was there recently I went to no 1, 8,9 which I presume are all portions of no 75. Are there any drawings that show the boundaries, or how were the land divisions described. On some of the places like Stoggdal, now vacant, there are no fences so how wouold the land boundaries have been shown

Hi,
there was no link in my post, only a map of the area.
I'll try another website in case you have problems with imageshack.us

Jan Peter Thanks.

I went to that general area and stood on the high ground where the WW11 gun emplacement was and looked out over the shoreline, I guess most of the folk that lived there would have been fishermen as there is not much suitable farming land in that area.
