This information was listed in a forum post to me last year on my husbands family. I am having trouble finding any information on his great grandfathers siblings, when the name was Pederson before it was changed to Roe. The information I received:

Engebret Pederson Rød (I. Pedersen, 21) perhaps son of Peder Ingebretsen Røe & Kari Nilsdatter b. in Siljan, Te April 26, 1823. Emigrated from Siljan, Te to the Pine Lake Settlement, Waukesha county, WI. Died March 9, 1872. Married, August 17, 1849 Karen Simonsdatter Sølverud, b. 1822 d. 1913. Children Peter, bp Sept. 20, 1851, Maren Christine bp Dec. 18, 1852 d. Nov 30, 1939, Simon, Jacob, bp May 24, 1856, Carl bp Dec 17, 1857, Jonas bp Jul 15, 1860.

In addition a probable sister to Engebret is also identified on the Salvator: Ingeborg Pedersdatter ( I. Pedersen, 16, fe.)Rød b. Siljan Telemark Sept 5, 1828 d. Scandinavia, WI Sept 1887, supposed to have married Christian Hansen.

I find the census in ancestry.com, but I am unable to find anymore informaton on Peters siblings. I would appreciate any information anybody can provide

Thanks
Janice

By siblings of Peter, I assume you mean people like Maren Christine. If so you can find a Family Tree that seems to contain her on Ancestry.com Public Trees. If this is the correct Maren she married Halvor Oleson Wrolstad. And can be found in US Census such as this .Do you feel that this is not a correct identification of Maren. If you mean something else you will have to clarify, since I am a little confused as to what you would like to know.

It is not certain that a person found with the right name and location is the exact person you are looking for. Usually more identification is needed, but here is a possible Jacob in 1880.

People do not always stay in the state where they were born, sometimes they move and in the US that was mainly west. Here is a possible Jonas born Jul 1860 in Wisconsin. You need to investigate these people to assure yourself that they are actually the siblings of Peter.

[Oldham, Kingsbury, South Dakota]
Age: 39
Birth Date: Jul 1860
Birthplace: Wisconsin

Gender: Male
Relationship to head-of-house: Head
Father's Birthplace: Norway
Mother's Birthplace: Norway
Spouse's Name: Eva P Peterson

Hi,

This may have been posted before, it may be your family before they used the Roe name, Norwegians in US 1860 census:

Yes, Thanks these are the people I'm looking for, but my question is on ancestry.com this is where the information seems to end, it seems if I try to look farther I'm unable to find anymore censuses on them for later years. I would appreciate any help on where to possibly find more information.

Thanks

familysearch.org lists at least 5 children born to Peder Ingebrigtsen and Kari Nilsdatter in Siljan, Telemark between 1825 and 1833. Ancestry does not contain much information from Norwegian resources, the free databases at familysearch contains quite a bit and used in conjunction with the online resources of the Digitalarkivet many questions you could answer yourself.

Hi,

Here is a Halvor Wrolstad / Maren Roe family tree at www.rootsweb.com:

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:2869799&id=I558867111

For the man in South Dakota, Ancestry has South Dakota deaths 1905-1950. If he didn't move from South Dakota or die before 1905, he's likely to be found....

You need to be a bit more flexible in your searching. For example people change names and places and if they do both it can make them extremely hard to find. For example in the case of Jonas Peterson, it would appear from the 1910 US Census that he changed his name to Roe and moved back to Wisconsin. Coupling that with a transcriber reading the name as Poe makes it a little hard to find. It may be that he remarried also since his wife now is named Pauline.

Name: Jonas Poe
[Jonas Roe]
Age in 1910: 49
Estimated Birth Year: 1861
Birthplace: Wisconsin
Relation to Head of House: Head
[Self (Head)]
Father's Birth Place: Norway
Mother's Birth Place: Norway
Spouse's Name: Pauline Poe
Home in 1910: New Hope, Portage, Wisconsin
Marital Status: Married
Race: White
Gender: Male
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
Jonas Poe 49
Pauline Poe 46
Belma Poe 22
Mable Poe 21
Jessie Poe 19
Elna Poe 17
Irvin Poe 15
Grace Poe 14
Gladies Poe 12
Harris Poe 10
Myrtle Poe 8
Ruth Poe 6
Lorend Poe 3

In the case of Jacob Peterson, first it would be good to know that the Jacob Peteson found in the 1880 US Census in Stevens Point, Portage, Wisconsin is the same Jacob Peterson sibling of Peter Peterson. If you determine that to be true then tracing can be possible. He is listed as being married to Gena Peterson. She is found as a widow in the 1900 US Census, indicating that the Jacob Peterson from the 1880 US Census has died in between 1880 and 1900. She can be traced up to the 1930 US Census under that name.

Name: Gena Peterson
Home in 1900: Scandinavia, Waupaca, Wisconsin
Age: 40
Birth Date: Jun 1853
Birthplace: Wisconsin
Race: White
Gender: Female
Relationship to head-of-house: Head
Father's Birthplace: Norway
Mother's Birthplace: Norway
Marital Status: Widowed
Occupation: View on Image
Household Members: Name Age
Gena Peterson 40
Chester A Peterson 15

Thanks for the information, I did some researching today and couldn't even come up with the Wrolstad family line. I think Jonas is married to the same person but she must have started using her middle name Pauline. I came across that alot especially with my husbands grandmothers maiden name Bestul.

Thanks
Janice

I think Jackie made it quite easy for you. If you click on the second link she provided it will take you right to the Family Tree.

If you are searching in Ancestry.com. you can search under Public Member Trees. Put in Halvor Wrolstad and look down a few names for the Tree titled Telemark., Norway and click on that tree. Spouse is listed as Maren Christine Roe.

I was on another website and they had listed that Carl Pederson (roe) lived in Kingsbury, South Dakota and his wife was listed as Segri Nelson. That was all that was listed on his family. I looked on Ancestry.com and couldn't find anything under the Roe last name, but under the Pederson last name I found a census but the married name was listed as Matilda Nelson. I'm trying to figure out if it's possibley the same person, I know that sometimes the names are changed.

Thanks

Hi Janice, I've come across a letter about Engebret Pederson and Ingeborg Anstensdatter, my great, great, great, great grand parents. It also references Peder Braaten. Contact me and I'll scan it and email it to you... I'm Iva Franks-Singer, granddaughter of Iva Franks. You have her listed as Eva Franks, daughter of Lemand Wilson Franks and Gina Kravik. Ingaborg is also listed as Ingaborg J. Kari. Hope to hear from you soon!

Iva
