Hi,

Working the same theme, what are the names of Soren Tellefson's children?

Hi,

What?? No girls at all? Are you sure that you have a complete set of children? So promising, too, that both gofa are remembered in the names of their sons that both goma would have been remembered the same way...

Will there be any values for this question in the upcoming release of the probate records (in 2013)?

If this were my search and I felt that I'd exhausted all conventional means and under the extreme duress of this only, I would look for every instance that Søren Tellefson appeared as faddernes and see if a particular Søren Tellefson seems to appear in the prospective sibling's children's baptismal records. It's cruel and painful but that teeny shred of relationship might reveal all.

I have not found any other children for Søren and Rannei. I have looked through the scanned chruch records for Tovdal, Åmli from 1835 to 1860 and did not find any other children. Lars died in 1848 so was not old enough to have children. Tellef did have children.

Picking one of the two candidates to work with further, I find the brother of the Søren Tellefsens born in 1788 still alive in the 1865 census living with his son Tellef Bentsen and his family. His name is Bent and they are living on the farm Fjermeraas in Evje parish, Aust-Agder.

1865

After some research in the Iveland bygdebok, I have concluded that this is not the correct Bent (Beint).

It would appear that Søren Tellefsen's mother Tarjerd Sørensdatter and her second husband Ole Olsen did spend sometime at Fidjeland, Vegusdal as there is this birth record for a Tellef Olsen. I may have to revisit the Vegusdal bygdebok.

Ole Olsen who was Tarjerd's second husband and Tarjerd Sørensdatter had several children when they lived at Haugland, Hornnes, Aust-Agder. One of them was Targie born in 1804. Here is his confirmation record from 1822. Tying the family a little firmer to Fidjeland where Søren Tellefsen has been identified as being from or having been born.

It would also appear as if Tajerd Sørensdatter died at Fidgeland. She was born 6 Jan 1765 in Iveland parish and died 7 Feb 1841 at 76 years old in Evje (Vegusdal) parish. . If I am reading the name correctly she is number 25 on the righthand page.

The Vegusdal bygdebok did have this family listed. Ole Olsen Haugland-Fidgjeland f. 1765 d1837 and married to Targjerd Sørensdatter f. 1765 d. 1841 bought Bnr. 3. No date listed but we know it was about late 1806 or early 1807 from the Hornnes bygdebok. The Vegusdal bygdebok lists only three children. Tellef f 1795, Ole f 1797 and a second Tellef f 1808. The children of Ole kept the farm until 1865, when it was sold again. No mention of the children of Targjerds first marriage unfortunately.
