Hei. Wrongspellings appears, names were changed. Some were forgotten. I know you have been searching the em. record for your Johannes Jensen Berge born on Lie-eiet Feb. 19. 1855, father was Jens Nilsen.
Worth a try. Perhaps he. em. under his fathers lastname? A Johannes Nilsen, bachelor from Lie-eiet em. April 1874 age 20., see last posting right page, #45
I can´t find any Johannes Nilsen born in Ĝstre Gausdal from 1853-56 or in the 1865 census for Gausdal. I can´t find Johannes Nilsen rec. in the em. list 1874 from Oslo, but widower Paul Larsen Lie-eiet age 61,see the person above him nr 44 in the 1874 em. from Gausdal, em. on ship Hero April 17. from Oslo, dest Amhurst, Wisc.

Great find! It has to be my great grandfather Johannes, because Nils Jensen would only have been 22 years old in 1874 and he couldn't of had a son that was old enough to emigrate. Also, my gr grandfather did end up near the Amherst area in Wisconsin. He rented a farm near Stevens Point, Wisconsin and then bought a farm near Rosholt, Wisconsin. His farm was only about 10 - 12 miles from Amherst. Now, I will also have to look for Paul Larsen and see if there is a connection there, other than just living on the same farm.
Thanks so much! Thanks for the e-mail, letting me know to check here. :-) |

I'm still running into the same problems that I had in the past. Actually finding an emigration record for Johannes Jensen or even Johannes Nilsen Lie-eiet. On the different U.S. Censuses, he listed both 1874 and 1875 as the year of immigration. Could he have worked in Oslo for a year, to make money to emigrate? That could be a possibility. |

That is a possibility, not easy to prove. Hero went to Hull, England so the passengers had to change boat. Hero belonged to Wilson Line of Hull while the shipping agent was from Allan Brothers.

Did you see Johannes on the Emigranter list with Paul Larsen? I didn't see him listed. Maybe I missed it, if you found it. |

I found Paul Larsen arriving on the Manitoban in Quebec on May 6, 1874. I, also see the people that were listed right below him on the Emigrantar fra Oslo, but I don't see Johannes Jensen/ Nilsen/ Lie.... The ship list is very hard to read, so he could possibly be there somewhere, but if I can't find him on the Emigrantar leaving Norway, it's hard to say what ship he could of sailed on. |

Hei. Johannes Nilsen Lie-eiet is not recorded as emigrant from Oslo 1874, but Cottager Paul Larsen Lie-eit is.
