Hi,
May be a breakthrough, a Johan b. 17 Feb 1847 to Gunder Gunderson and Inger Jorgensdatter at Elverum, #21:
Source information: Hedmark county, Elverum, Parish register copy nr. 2 (1845-1855), Birth and baptism records 1847, page 15. Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=9169&idx_id=9169&uid=ny&idx_side=-18
Gunder's and Inger's marriage, #30:
Source information: Hedmark county, Elverum, Parish register copy nr. 2 (1845-1855), Marriage records 1846, page 161. Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=9169&idx_id=9169&uid=ny&idx_side=-124
The other Johan's John's baptism #4:
Source information: Hedmark county, Elverum, Parish register copy nr. 2 (1845-1855), Birth and baptism records 1855, page 67. Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=9169&idx_id=9169&uid=ny&idx_side=-71
This may be Johan d.e. (patronymic is hard to read) leaving Elverum for Christiania in 1869 #18:
Source information: Hedmark county, Elverum, Parish register copy nr. 4 (1866-1874), Migration records 1870-1871, page
Better candidate found in later eibache post. Jackie |

Hi,
Anna Hagen wife of John G. Hagen of Duluth died in 1903. This is her death record as recorded in Minnesota Deaths and Burials database at www.familysearch.org:
Name: Anna Hagen Gender: Female Burial Date: Burial Place: Death Date: 30 Jun 1903 Death Place: Duluth, St. Louis, Minnesota Age: 50 Birth Date: 1853 Birthplace: Nor Occupation: Hw Race: White Marital Status: Married Spouse's Name: Father's Name: Jos. Barns Father's Birthplace: Nor Mother's Name: Engeborg Mother's Birthplace: Nor Indexing Project (Batch) Number: B02072-3 System Origin: Minnesota-EASy Source Film Number: 2117543 Reference Number:
Her father' last name seems a bit unusual for a Norwegian.
Searching the 1865 census for Ingeborganna finds 11 households with a girl of that name born 1851-1855 and only one in which her mother is present and named Ingeborg:
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebCens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=21&filnamn=f61553&gardpostnr=208&personpostnr=1296&merk=1296#ovre ( She was found in the 1865 census in earlier topic.)
Ingeborganna seems to be most popular from More og Romsdal and north, found none in southern Norway at all.
If her name was Ingeborganna, age is a bit wonky, but this may be her:

Hi Jackie..I used the link y ou provided last night and it was great. Anna died of Dropsy....
Her father Jos. Barns was actually Josias Børaas.....who we covered at length in another thread...(see Margit Mikkelsdatter)
Ingeboranna was born in Nord Trondelag and she immigrated to the U.S. in 1869.....
This is very helpful information on John G. Hagen, and very promising.....
thank you. |

- could not be "the one" leaving Elverum in 1883.

Confirmation record for Johan Gundersen, Mørkhagen is #47.
Johan Gundersen and his younger brother Martinus moved out from Elverum 1867, see #22 and 23.

Hi,
A possible. Ingeborg is a Norwegian name that often becomes Belle in America...
And here is another interesting connection, from the pre 1900 marriage index at St. Louis County page in www.usgenweb.com:
Book, page G ,215 Hagen, Amelia Barncard, Stuart Z. 1893-02-18 Duluth 1893-02-20 Duluth
I assume the first date is of the license and the 2nd date is of the marriage.
Also there are 2 births in this Barncard family in the Birth index at www.mnhs.org:
Barncard, Stuart Clifton Date of Birth: 10 Mar 1904 Mother Maiden Name: Hagen certid# 1904-41076 County of Birth: St. Louis
Barncard, John Roger Date of Birth: 14 Dec 1907 Mother Maiden Name: Hagen certid# 1907-41370 County of Birth: St. Louis
And here is a family tree at www.rootsweb.com which has information on Amelia Hagen and her parents John and Anna:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=rmcconnell1942&id=I263
The database has been fairly recently updated 2010 and mentions an interesting document of 5 pages of Emelia writing about her birth family, etc.

-------------------------------- Hi Jackie. excellent find! This must be the Emilie we see in the 1880 Minnesota State Census, born around 1873.
thank you! |

Perfect question for using the Internet and a search engine just looking for "Elverum". For example, from Wikepedia ...

Hi,
Gunder & Inger the parents left in 1882 with John b. 1854 & his family.
They are numbers 234+235 on the left hand page, farm is Skansen (which is probably Skanshagen):
Source information: Hedmark county, Elverum, Parish register (official) nr. 12 (1880-1893), Emigration records 1883, page 108. Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=6046&idx_id=6046&uid=ny&idx_side=-100
Sons Gunder Gunderson Skandsen & his wife and child are #224, 225, 226 and John Gunderson Skandsen & his wife and child are # 227, 228, 229 on the same page.

Hello. I hope you are all well.
I have been working hard at understanding the Hagen family and have come to a greater understanding of the relationships .Thank you all for your help. I am most interested in the Martinus b. 1852 and Johan b. 1847, as they immigratred together under the name of Gundersen and I cannot make out the last name but it should be Hagen but it looks like Haug or Horg...
I am continually frustrated, however, in not being able to find either of these two in the 1870 U.S. National Census. I have been searching for a Martin Hagen or he perhaps used the name Gundersen b. 1852 and his older brother Johan, who was using the name Johan Gundersen in an 1873 baptismal record for a Zion Lutheran Church in Faribault, Minnesota, Rice County.......
I would think that as Martin would have been about 17 years old he would have been with his brother, or perhaps a family in 1870, but I have learned he was very adventurous and he may have gone off by himself...
In looking at the Uttflytte records #22 and #23 noted above, is their any indication they were traveling with another family and can you make out what their names might be ? It is possible one or both could be found with these people still in the 1870 Census?
thank you.
