My grandfather Arthur C. A. Schønemann was born in Oslo in 1885. He and his wife Ragnhild came to America in 1909 and lived in New York and New Jersey. He returned to Norway sometime after 1934 without his wife. He remarried and stayed in Norway (probably the Oslo area) and died there in 1951 (we think).
I have tried to find information about his second marriage and death on Digitalarkivet with no success.
Would anyone have any suggestions for further research?

There are limits to what "recent" Norwegian vital records/church records are made public, just as there are privacy rules about such US information. To my memory the cut-off dates were usually about 1920 or 1930. |

A perfect match. Arthur Karl Adolf Schønemann is born 03 MAY 1885. Arthur and wife Ragnhild was home in Norway for a visit in 1911.
Arthur's parents are Fredrik Schønemann (born in 09 Nov 1851 in Hannover, Germany) and Anna Kristine Fredrikke Reese (born 23 Apr 1859) Marriage record #1, 1879. Source information: Oslo county, Oslo Domkirke / Vår Frelsers menighet, Parish register (official) nr. 21 (1865-1884), Marriage records 1879, page 303.
There are descendants of these people living in Norway today.

Yes, thank you -- that is my grandfather. He came to America only temporarily to seek his fortune always intending to return. There are a number of records in the Ellis Island web site showing his trips -- sometimes working his passage as a crew member (he was a barber).
I would love to get in touch with some relatives in Norway.

OK. One of Fredrik Schønemann and Anna Kristine Fredrikke Reese's great-grandsons are active on a Norwegian Genealogy Forum. I've sent him a message, asking for contact/email info.

Doing some research, I see my grandfather is buried in a cemetery along with Edvard Munch, Henrik Ibsen and many Norwegian prime ministers. |

Jan Peter,
Thank you for sending me the e-mail for my new Norway cousin. He is my second cousin and I have just sent him a greeting.
You have been a great help to me and I appreciate it.
