The only person I was able to find in the US Census records lilving in Brooklyn who comes close to your person. The problem is that this person is listed as a carpenter not a seaman.

HeritageQuest finds 7 Oscar Hansen born in Norway in Brooklyn, New York in 1910:

1.age 32 living at 4704 5th Ave

2. age 22 living at 940 4th Ave came to US 1904, stepson to John Winther, his mother's name Jennie and a brother named Fredrick

3. age 42 lives at 171 Carroll St, is captain on a "R.R." and looks like freighter?

4. age 25 born New York lives at 177 Sands St

5. age 31 lives at 773 51st St; lightsman on river boat; brother in law to Thorvald Thompson

6. age 45 lives at 1269 41st St; boatman on Steamboat

7. age 25 lives at 203 Hamilton Ave works as driver

I've included a few other family details. Are any of these names familiar?

Wow, lots of ship names to input. Genealogybank.com was misbehaving a bit tonight so was unable to look for all but did see that there were 88 references for Breifond, 6 for Birgit, and 31 for Clauseus.

Did see that Clauseus was a steamer for the Green Star line, was launched in December 1919, built by Northwest Steel Company and carried sulpher and railroad ties and these items were reported in the Oregonian on the west coast of US 1919 & 1920.

Looks like Chris Christofferson from the passenger /crew lists was a rolling stone, that is, gathering no moss!
