My great uncle Hans Simensen was born 18 Jan 1906 in Fåvang, Ringebu, Oppland, Norway. He arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada 20 Mar 1927 with the passenger ship "Ausonia" from Southampton, England. After that, I and my family have not heard from him and have failed to find any trace of him in USA or Canada. |

The only record on him that I was able to find in Ancestry.com. His destination is listed as Montreal, No mention of who he might be going to visit or meet. Do you know whom he would have known in America. A friend or a family member that he would have been going to seee when he first arrrived. He lists his occupation as farmer, so we might expect that he would have freinds or family members already here and farming.

Thank you, I did not know that his destination was Montreal. Han was a farm hand on Myrhaugen farm in Ringebu, Norway. Thus, in the Kristiania [Oslo] emigration records, his name is Hans Simensen Myrhaugen.

The original record of the 1930 US Census shows that Ingrid immigrated to the United States in 1926. It also shows that the couple had been married for one year, so the marriage year was probably 1929. She is listed as having been born in Norway.

My grandfather was Carl Hans Simenson Hagen. Born in Norway Jan 18, 1906. My grandfather gave my mother his ship records of his passage on the Ausonia. He lived in the BC Canada and had many children with Esther Hagen; one which was my mother Rita Hagen Wood born in 1946. My grandfather passed in 1986 during the time he came to live with us when I was nine. Grandpa was very secretive about his former life in Norway, however, it is a calling for us to find-long lost family! We have his hand-written documentation of his siblings and other various records. He claimed that his father was a Lutheran Minister in Norway and taught singing as well. One of his parents was Swedish? He lived in Oslo before he immigrated. Does any of this resonate? If so...there is lots to share! |

The following was sent from my sister this eve.
Name: Carl Hans Simon Hagen Born: Jan 18, 1906 in Norway (see notes) Died: May 11, 1987, Burried: Plot BB 7 1, Fairview Cemetery, Prince Rupert, British Columbia Married: Irene Hester McMillan on May 4, 1940 at Prince Rupert, British Columbia Cause of Death: Renal Failure (see notes) Siblings names: Jórgen, Anna, Sigurd Father: Simen Hagen Mother: Maria Johansdater Raised in: Norway Came to Canada on the Ship: SS Ausania Traveled with Krist Berg (Saskatchewan)
Birthplace discrepancy: His death certificate cites Oslo Norway A document he filled out himself in a letter to my mom (Rita Wood) he stated Nerv Norway as his birth place. A separate sheet in the handwriting of my mom (Rita Wood) notes Fauvong and his birth place. Cause of Death Discrepancy: Although Renal Failure is the documented Cause of Death, it is known that Medication conflicted with air travel and caused heart failure while Medical staff transported him from Vancouver BC to Prince Rupert Hospital. |
