Hi.
You are welcome.
It´s good to have someone to share the information with.
I hope your 92 year old aunt enjoy the information.

Nils also had a brother Christoffer Andersen b. on Kopperud Mai. 17. 1873.

Christoffer Andersen married Elise Olsdatter from farm Hørte and owned Hørte before 1900, two children; Alf 1898 and Berta 1900.
The family on Hørte with two servants, Helga and Nils and a welfare recipient Ockar Strøm, see here

Farms in Lier and the people running them can be found online, see
http://www.lier.kommune.no/liers-historie/

Unfortunately it is only written in Norwegian.

I did some more digging and you were right, Mary (Mary) Hanson was not an orphan. It was her mother who was. Anyway, does anyone know when Mary's parents Hans Olsen and Anne Kirstine Olsdatter came to the US? My aunt remembers my grandfather saying he lived with them in Milwaukee and went to high school there. They spoke no English so he did all the translating for them. Thanks.

Need some time to find out ab. her parents, so fare I havn´t looked into the migration records.
Not all were recorded.

The name Kopperud;
The ending .....rud mean to clear the land and Kopper means cups. Coming from the old word Koppararud coming from Koppari (Cup maker)

This farm was cleared before the Viking age, but was abandoned after the Black Plague 1349-50 where ca 50 % of the population in Norway died and cleared again 1558, at that time called an Ødegård.
Ødegård (Deserted farm) was often used on farms that were abandoned after the Black Plague.

Lier has "Bygdeborg", a smaller fortress, a defence system of several stone-walls on top of the cliffs of "Fosskollen" from ca 500 BC - 550 AC for protection where the population in Lier could stay in turbulent times.
From the top of these cliffs you can view Lier with the Fjord and Drammen to the right in the background, see here.

Great information about the farm. Thank you! And I love your photos. It somehow makes this exploration seem more real.

Through Anders Nielsen I was able to find a link to Gorm the Old, King of Denmark, on to Odin and ultimately Alexander the Great. We had been told in the past monarchy was way in the distant past but of course we didn't take that seriously. We should have. And now thanks to all of you I was able to make that link. We are all grateful to you. Thank you

Anders Nilsen, Kopperud was brother of my great grandfather Nils Nilsen (married to Marthe Olsdatter Kopperud). I have a lot of information of Anders's anchestors, and some information about his 8 siblings. I miss all information about your Nils - so maybe we could help each other ?

I would be glad to send you information. As I understand it, our great-grandfathers were brothers. I have lots of information on their ancestors. Do you have access to Ancestry.com because my tree is there and I can give you access online to that if you want.

Yes, I really want access to your online tree. I have often thought of making my own tree somewhere, but I haven't found where to put it yet. I have approxemately 1800 people in my database now, so I should have shared them somewhere.
