I think Ane/Anne Kirstine/Kristine Olsdatter was from farm Leversby (Levelsbye) Bakke subparish in Skotselv, Øvre-Eiker municipality. Parents: Ole Jacobsen and Kari Nilsdatter.

The family story is that Maren was at orphan at age 15 so she decided to emigrate to the US as she had I think 3 brothers already there. One was Ole and he was a captain out of Milwaukee. Nils Kopperud had come over about the same time and was working for Ole. She worked at various homes in Milwaukee and then at 17 married Nils to "get away from hard work." I would expect the hard work had only begun as they had 8 children and farmed the rest of their lives in South Dakota. |

This may not be absolutely accurate as in the 1880 census of Dakota Territory, Kingsbury County, Nels A Kopperud is listed as the "son-in-law" and Mary Hanson is listed as the "daughter" of Hans Olson age 62 and his wife Anna Olson age 52. There is also another daughter named Anna Hanson age 21. |

You could very well be right. I know family stories often have just a grain truth to them at best. Thanks for pointing that out to me! |

I can't begin to thank you all enough. I am going to digest all this and and no doubt will have questions to ask. Seriously, I can't thank all of you enough. I would never have been able to put all this together with my limited knowledge of Norwegian and my new attempts to find genealogical clues. If you find more information, keep it coming! I am going to share this with my 92 year-old aunt (Nils and Mary were her grandparents) and I know she will be very excited and thrilled to know more about them. Tak, Tak Tusand Tak! |
