Gjertrud Torgersdatter Haarstad was my gggrandfather Arnt Torgerson Haarstad Solem's sister. I did not have her children and appropriate all the information to add to my tree.

Would happen to know how to research and find Arnt Torgerson Solem's son Johan Solem born 1857 who was on the ship the Franklin in 1870 with his parents and brother and sisters but he is the only one I cannot find. I live on the Solem homestead in South Dakota, Union County, USA and everyone found except Johan. Do you think he died on the ship and how would I find this out? They landed in Quebec Canada.
Emigration on the bark Franklin on 28 Apr 1870. Destination Quebec, Canada:
Arnt Torgersen Solem (54)
Berit Jørgensdatter (46)
Thomas Arntsen (16)
Johan Arntsen (12.5)
Ingeborg Arntsdatter (9.5)
Anne Arntsdatter (4)

Mastered by Capt. Chr.
Winsnæs. In 1869 the "ship" [most likely she was rigged as a bark like the year before
and after] Franklin departed from Trondheim Apr. 28, and arrived at Quebec June 18. She
was sailing in ballast, and was carrying 304 steerage passengers and 3 cabin
passengers. There was an outbreak of Small Pox on board. When the ship arrived to the
quarantine station at Grosse Île, four were sick. Three deaths had occurred on the
voyage, a woman of phthisis (wasting away), and two children of diarrhoea and wasting
away.

Looking at the orginal manifest at Ancestry.com, I did not see any written remarks on deaths on board the ship. Nothing was written about or near the entry for Johan Arntsen. The passengers were Arnt Toregersen, wife Berit Jorgens., and children Thomas, Johan, Ingaborg, and Anna all called Torgersen. The rest of the family are rendered fairly correctly, however Arnt provided some difficulties for the transcriber.

This is the one I am looking for as I think she came to America. All the other information all of you have provided was a wealth of information and I have added to my family tree. I thank you so much.

And would you know when Marit died?

Death in Kristiansund, More og Romsdal, Norway

And would you know if this Marit really came to the US and when? I think she may have come here and married her grandmothers brothers son Ole Trondvold.

Here is a candidate for you. However, the age is a little off. The emigration date is 1900 so Ingeborg should be 62 but this Ingeborg is only 57.

http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=26&filnamn=EMITROND&gardpostnr=92335&merk=92335#ovre

Looking more closely at this it appears that this Ingeborg is travelling with her husband Ole Snoen, age 53. I found their arrival into the United States. About the same information..

Not likely your Ingeborg.
