The McHenry county history has some details about the family & a picture. What it says about Mattie is this:

"It was here [meaning Goodhue county, Minnesota] he met Mattie Nelson and they were married in 1882. Mattie Nelson was born in Norway on March 14, 1855 and sailed to America when she was 18. She was so ill from the slow three week trip that she never had a desire to go back."

and
"...and Mattie passed away in 1943 at the age of 88 at the same (original Severson) farm home."

So you want to say that this Anders Severson whose information is on page 1:

"...Anders Sjurson Hundere, born April 29, 1817 in Sogndal,Sogn, Norway; died September 17, 1894 in Zumbrota, Goodhue Co, MN. ...."

is the same man as Anders Severson Lexvold who was born in 1829 and died in 1911?

I'd guess I'd have to see the proof!

There maybe some confusion between two families named Severson and both living in Goodhue County. Here are the two Anders Severson from the 1880 Census. I do not know that they are at all related.

Hi slexvold, so it's clearly shown "your" Andrew S. Lexvold is a different man in a different family from the Anders Severson in this thread.

Find a Grave site, as you posted, has a biography of "your" Andrew, and also biographies of sons Sivert, Christ, and Ole. The biographies - and more - are also posted on the Dalby Database, and perhaps that is where the Find-a-Grave creator found them. SOURCE is HISTORY OF GOODHUE COUNTY, MN published 1909. Below, the link doesn't hold, so search the various databases for "Lexvold."
http://www.dalbydata.com/user.php?action=resultobits

In the interest of pulling info into this thread (where it is more visible):

Andrew S Lexvold is said to be born 09 Nov 1829 in Norway and to have married first Bertina, who died in Norway. Then Anders and son Sivert (born 12 March 1862, per Sivert bio) immigrated 1866, arrived in Minnesota. Sivert being with his father is mentioned in Sivert bio - perhaps others came too but aren't mentioned. Anders married Gunhild "Cornelia" Thompson in Nov 1868. "Your" Anders's children are said to be Sever, Ole, Christ, Halbert (sons) and Martha, Anna, Sarah, Martina, and Bertha (daughters).

Do you know where Anders came from in Norway? That info is not included in the bios.

In 1865 a widower Anders Sivertsen age 37 (born Størdalen) living at Voldaas in Strinda, Sør-Trøndelag, has a son Sivert Andersen age 4. I don't know if it's the right Anders. This Anders also has older daughters Martha age 11 (born Størdalen), Anna 9, and Sigri 6 ( the youngest children born in Strinda). Anders's mother Mali Christensdatter age 61 lives with them.

1865 census link:
http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/en-gb/ft/person/pf01038328008543

The 1880 US census (posted by lyndal40) shows Anders with offspring Martha, Sarah (could be Sigri) and "Serie" (could be Sever); the 1865 in Strinda is a good fit for those names and ages. Anders and Gunhild/ Cornelia having married in 1868 (if that's accurate), the children older than about age 11 as of 1880 are from an earlier marriage.

Probably the 1865 Strinda family emigrating here:
http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_list.asp?jo=1268&ps=24530

Departing Trondheim 05 May 1866
on the bark Neptunus <----- (they arrived Quebec on the Fido)
Arriving Quebec 09 June 1866
Anders Sivertsen Rognaas age 35
Martha Andersdatter Rognaas 10
Anna Andersdatter Rognaas 8
Sigri Andersdatter 5
Sivert Andersen Rognaas 4

So then it's a simple matter - if it's of interest - to check if the birth dates of the family in Strinda are the same as the birth dates of the Lexvold family in Minnesota.

The 11 June 1855 marriage is probably right (despite the Holgersd. vs Herdersd. discrepancy), as godparents at Seri's baptism include unkarl Peter Herders. i Throndhjem and Madame Holst i Throndhjem.

Birth-baptisms:

Anna A.d. (Andersdatter) Rognaas born 19 Sep 1857 * Strinda (Malvik)
Parents: Anders Sivertsen and Berntine Henrika Herdersd.

Seri født Rognaas born 03 June 1860 * Strinda (Malvik)
Parents: Anders Sivertsen and Berntine Herdersd.

Transcriptions found same website as Sivert's birth (posted earlier).

Find a Grave has a Martha Lexvold Johnson (wife of Hogan Johnson) born 20 Oct 1855; died 20 Jan 1956 (sic) in Sacramento, California. A possible for Martha Andersdatter (or Severson) Lexvold.

Just found an Ancestry.com family tree with parents and siblings listed for Anders Sivertsen Lexvold. The mother matches what we already found in the 1865 census.

Per the family tree
Father: Sivert Hemmingsen (Mahla) b ca 1804
Mother: Mali Kristensdatter b ca 1805
1. Anders Sivertsen Lexvold 1829-1911 (no wife or children are noted on this tree)
2. Sigrid Sivertsen b 6 November 1836 - d 5 December 1917 in Dodge, Minnesota, USA (no spouse or children noted)
3. Hemming Sivertsen b 1837 with children
1 Ole Hemningsen (Mahla) b 1852
2 Sivert b 1853
3 Martin b 1857
4 Randi Rosie b 1860
5 Gerrine b 1863
6 Riborg b 1865

The above tree shows Hemming married to Bertine Holgersdatter (no dates or locations or any info for her) - but I doubt Anders would be too pleased about that.

On the passenger manifest already posted for Anders Sivertsen -
departing Trondheim 05 May 1866 on the bark Neptunus
we find:

Hemming Sivertsen Mæhla 39 m <-------------
Sivert Hemmingsen Mæhla* 13 m son
Ole Hemmingsen* Mæhla* 12 m son
Randi Hemmingsdatter Mæhla* 5 f daughter
Gurine Hemmingsdatter* Mæhla* 3 f daughter
Riborg Hemmingsdatter* Mæhla* 1 f daughter
Ole Pedersen Kyllo 34 m
Sigrid Sivertsdatter Kyllo* 30 f his wife <---------
Anna Olsdatter Kyllo* 1 f daughter
Peter Olsen Kyllo* 4 m son
Mali Kirstensdatter 60 f <-------------
Anders Sivertsen Rognaas 36 m <------------
Martha Andersdatter Rognaas* 10 f his daughter
Anna Andersdatter* Rognaas* 8 f his daughter
Sigri Andersdatter* Rognaas* 5 f his daughter
Sivert Andersen Rognaas* 4 m son

So this seems to be the family described by the family tree - the mother, and three Sivertsen offspring Anders, Sigrid, Hemming.

Here in 1865 Norway census is Hemming at
Mæhla øvre in Stjørdal.

And here is Ole Pedersen Kyllo and Sigrid on Find-a-Grave,
Burial at Evanger Lutheran Church Cemetery, Sargeant, Mower County, Minnesota:

Got it - the birth of Anders Sivertsen 1829-1911 (later called Lexvold).
LINK

Source: Nord-Trøndelag fylke, Stjørdal, Ministerialbok nr. 709A10 (1820-1832), Fødte og døpte 1829, side 118.

09 November 1829 - baptized 24 December
Anders Sivertsen
Parents:
Sivert Hemmingsen, østre ---?--- (Hemre?)
Mali Christensdatter

So that matches the date for slexvold's ancestor as given in USA (e.g., the published bio), and confirms the identity of Anders Sivertsen Lexvold.

And I still don't know where "Lexvold" comes from.
