ENGLISH: I am looking for my grandmother's half brother Torleif Johannessen (censuc in 1910 he was named as Torleiv) b.11.06 1897 in Drevja / Vefsn (Vefsen). He grew up with his mother, Julianna who married Jørgen Oseng. He had little or non contact with his father, Jørgen Dass Johannessen (Changed his surname to Austerslått later on). We find no information on Torleif after his confirmation. He had several half-siblings on his mother's side. The siblings eventually took the surname Oseng, but as far as we know he used the name Johannessen. He may have emigrated, but we do not know where. He i not to be found in the Ellis Island database og the mormon database. We know that at least one brother, Fridtjov emigrated to Wisconsin. In the records from Ellis Island says that he should live with his uncle Jacob Samuel Larsen (brother of Julianna) in River Falls(went to USA in 1884), but I find no further info on either one or the other. I hope someone out there has info or at least some good tips on how I can find out more about Torleif. This is a mystery and many in the family has tried to solve, so far without success.

Not an easy find, but perhaps some general information might provide some helpful information that would help us locate him. Here is a link to that 1910 Census.

This is I assume Frithjov Oseng leaving Trondheim in 1921. Please feel free to provide a correction if any of this information is incorrect.

Probably the same person as above, working as a sailor out of California ports. Here he lists his birthplace as Svolvar which I assume is probably Svolvær, Nordland. He is found in Ancestry.com on several other ships working in the crew. One of the ship manifests lists that he was naturalized in 1926 as a US Citizen.

California Passenger and Crew Lists, 1882-1957

I have searched in different registers for Torleif and have tried numerous variations of his name. Those I have found I have been able to check out. I have two pers. I didnt manage to find more information about.
1. Mr. T. Johannessen arrived in Fremantle in Australia with the ship "Borda" from London 15.feb.1929. I find no further information about this person.

2.Torleif Johannessen, who was a sailor who sailed with "Ida Knudsen 'and was torpedoed during 2.worldwar outside Morocco. He survived, but found no trace of him in warsailor register or other list over sailors.

Regarding Fritjov ,it 's correct that he left Norway in 1921, and the passenger list from Ellis Island shows that he is going to his uncle Jacob Larsen (Nr.18 in Manifest) http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipmanifest.asp?pID=100205030126&fromShip=y&letter=o&half=2&sname=Oscar*ll&year=1921&sdate=06/14/1921&port=Christiania&page=&MID=09514563890895412864&

jkmarler: I don't have any information of another illegitimate child of his mother Julianna.

Lyngdal40: The person you found is not the man I'm seeking, but thanks anyway :)

This might be the same Fred Osing. However the immigration year is listed as 1924? Florence Koepelle is listed as sister-in-law. Since she is listed as being born in Minnesota the same as Fred's wife Anna we might be able to assume that she is a sister of Anna.

I realize I'm just a newbe in this game :) I did not know abot sister Borghild, but the fact that she went to US opens for new opportunities to look elsewhere in US for Torleif.
I think you are right about Fred Osing being Fridtjov, birth date and mothers last name are correct. He may have children who is still alive that have som info of Torleif, will keep on looking. Thanks for good help :)
