I am looking for the birth record of Tellef Pedersen Helleland born abt 1817. I would also be interested in any siblings he may have had. Here is his marriage record. from 1851, see #12

I wonder if this might be his father and the father's family in the 1801 Census.

Two questions about this person. One what is his name. And father looks to be the same Peder Omundsen Hætland but the mothers name looks to be Targer Tollefsdatter not Inger. Perhaps I am reading the mothers name incorrectly. Number 1 left page.

She is Targier Tollofsdatter- not the mother of your Tollof.

Thanks Einar, I think I am a little confused here since I have found the following four children who to my eyes seem to have the same father Peder Osmundsen Hæland but the chronology of the two mothers does not make sense.

Guri 1810 Targer Tollefsdatter
Tollof 1815 Inger Tollefsdatter
? 1818 Targer Tollefsdatter
Berthe 1820 Targer Tollefsdatter

Berthe is found here #25 right page http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=15774&idx_id=15774&uid=ny&idx_side=-22

Peder Omundsen Hætland and Targiær Tollofsdatter who were married Nov 04 1806, last record in left column on right page,
they had the following children:
Marthe,b Jan 18 1808, right page
Guri,b Febr 18 1810,
Omund, b Oct 11 1812, left page
Thønnes, b Jan 01 1818,
Berthe, b Oct 08 1820,
Berthe, b Oct 28 1821, #22
Tollef, b June 24 1824, #12

Have not found any other children after Peder Omundsen and Inger Tollofsdatter, nor their marriage record.

Inger in 1801.

A suspicious gap of nearly 6 years between babies isn't it that appears at just the moment that a couple of similar name appears in records, for whom no marriage record could be found, nor other further children of?

Peder Omundsen (16 years in 1801) was baptized March 24 1785, his parents were Ommund Hætland and Guri Asbjørnsdatter, left page.

Inger Tollefsdatter were baptized July 8 1792, 5th record right page, her parents were Tollef Mortensen, Wigeraa and Anna Olsdatter.

Torjær (Targiær) Tollevsdatter (Tollefsdatter) in 1801.

Very unlikely that Inger and Targiær is the same person.

I was able to look at the bygdebok, Time Gards-og-ættesoge yesterday. The bygdebok would lead one to conclude that the identification of the mother of Tollef as Inger is incorrect. Here is a summary of the information found in the bygdebok. Most of which correlates well with what Jan Peter and Einar found.

Under the section for Store Undheim we find Tollef Vellesen Espeland and Marta Holmen and children including.
Torgjerd, dpt. 17.9.1786, g. 4.11.1806 m. Peder Osmundsen Hetland f. i Bjerkreim dpt. 24.3.1785. Bonde på Tunheim

Under the section for Tunheim we find Tollef Pedersen Hetland f. i Bjerkreim dpt. 25.6.1815, son til Peder Ommundsen Hetland og Torgjerd Tolleivsdtr. , Store Undheim nr 76a. g. 12.6.1851
m. Anna Maria Samuelsdtr., dotter til nr. 54, f. 14.4.1826. Dei budde på Tunheim 1861

This section goes on to describe the family of Tollef and Anna Maria.

Based on the age of Tellef (Tollef) Pedersen (35) when he married Anne Marie Samuelsdatter in 1851, the one born 1815 seems to be the one you are looking for. I have looked for his confirmation record without finding any.
The confirmation record for the other Tollef Pedersen born 1824 is #14.
If the mother of Tollof Pedersen born 1815 should have been Torgjerd (Targjær) Tolleivsdatter (Tollefsdatter), (according to the Time Gards-og-ættesoge) he probably died before 1824 - age in marriage record you refer to would be incorrect in such a case since the one you are looking for is the one born 1824.

Thanks Einar. I have one more place to look. Next week I expect to be able to access the Hetland bygdebok by Valand. Hopefully it will shed a little more light on the subject.
