My Great Uncle Jacob Halvorson emigrated in 1873. All of his family are listed on the passenger list of the Valkyrian, but not him. I'm wondering if he was one of the crew and how would I get that information?

The 1873 voyage of Valkyrien seems to have been terrifying:

Jakob Halversen Busesund is neither listed on the Valkyrien departure list for 1873 nor the arrival list at Quebec.
And he is not listed in the emigrant protocol for 1873 from Sund parish, Hordaland. But the rest of the family are:

That information was awesome. Now I know for sure that Jacob was my great uncle and that I had a great aunt Kari, who must have died in Norway before 1873. Still think Jacob was a crew member on the Valkyrian and then he jumped ship when it got to Quebec. Thanks again for all your help. Wanda

Yes...Torkel is Knud's and Jacob's brother. He was my Grandfather and died when my father was only four years old. We don't have much history about this side of the family because of his early death. I do know that he used the names Tom, Torkel, Torkild, Thor and now I see from the info you've sent that the correct spelling of his first name was Thorkild. I've also found his last name spelled differently (Halvorson or Halverson) throughout the years. After much searching I was able to find him on the Sioux Agency, Yellow Medicine, Minnesota 1880 census, although they had him listed as being 16 he would have been 18 or 19.
I've also found him on the 1885 Dakota Territory Census and the 1990 and 1910 Steele County ND census. He died at the age of 48 a couple of weeks after that last census was taken. He owned 960 acres of land in Sharon and Finley Township, Steele County North Dakota when he died. Would love to see the Christening information on Thorkild, Knud and Kari if it's not too much trouble. Thank you so much for all this wonderful information. Wanda

Is it possible that Jacob Halvorson was in the Norwegian Navy, if so how would I check?
