This may be the uncle in the 1920 census transcription at www.familysearch.org. Thina would be a daughter of this Osten and it looks like they came to US in 1901. The A in A Batterud may represent the Yankee version of Osten which would be Austin. Thina is the second wife of Peder C. Lee. Are any of these names familiar to you?:

In the transcription of the headstones of Osten in Cemeteries in North Dakota, Steele County, Volume 3B, by Red River Valley Genealogical Society pg 52 burials of Goose River Lutheran Church are these:
Bratrud, Osten Olson 1838-1922
Bratrud, Astrid (wife of Osten) 1837-1918

The North Dakota Public Death Index has this entry:
BRATRUD, OSTEN O
MALE 89 Years
born 01/13/1833
res. North Dakota Steele

Here is the family in 1900 census in Norway:

Since he's born Tinn, and she's born Hovin, a little hard to understand how they may be related to the Aasen / Blomshield / Olausen group....

Thank you both. This has been fantastic. I have sorted out all he information and put tit in the right documents. I have got so much info now so I can start looking for living relatives.
I tried Familysearch, but had to sign in. I guess you wrote down the info I needed.
The Lee and Bratterud are both unknown to me. 25 Harriet Street in Providence is for sale, and I am trying to find the owner. So all for now. Take care.
I will be away from my PC for one week, and when I am back I will look more into the family. So thanks for now.

Same ship different page, we find the rest of the family Østen, Astrid, Ragnhild and young Astrid. Oddly enough they are listed as going to Ross? Minnesota on the manifest. Turi above is listed as going to Manitoba. You can Google Map Ross, it is in the far upper left corner of Minnesota. Near Manitoba and North Dakota.

The Bratterud family came from Hovind, which is a place in the Telemark region, far away from Lillehammer and Oppland. Bratterud means a steep clearing and Lee comes from Li which is a hillside. Usually they used their familyname after the farm they had, and there were a lot of steep hillside farms in Norway. And a lot of Li'. There seem to be two families, one family went to Boston and the unmarried youngsters went to Manitoba.

Nils, since you are still monitoring, what are the names of the siblings of Olaus Hanson Aasen and his wife? Amongst those names should be the name of the uncle that Hans Aasen was going to in 1901.

Besides the unlikely combination of the places in Norway Tinn & Hovin with Faaberg/ Lillehammer it might also not have been possible for the Osten Bratrud family to have been settled in Hillsboro in time for Hans to go there.

The destinations may have been Boston and Manitoba, but I think they all ended up in Steele County, North Dakota.

I am monitoring, but I do not have any documents with me, Olaus Hansen Aasen was the father of Hans, Syver, Marie And Oline. And my maternal grandfather. My maternal grandmother had 4 brothers going to Minnesota, but their family name was Swendsrud. According to my mother, had Olaus a brother who went to the USA and used the name Blomshield. He became a famous artist, and settled in New York.
I have never seen the name Bratrud, and Osten is a much used Swedish name. Also know that both Hans and Aasen are commonly used names in Norway. I do not see any connection.
