The Iona Halvorson on the 1910 census is Mariane's husband. If you look at the spelling of the name at an angle it looks more like Tom. Mariane and Tom (Thorkild) Halvorson had a total of 8 children the two oldest died in Feb 1902 and yes they lived in Finley, N.D.
The Ellen Iverson listed as living with them was Mariane's niece I would love to find out which of Mariane's siblings was her parent. Ellen and Ingvald ended up buying this farm after Tom's death.
I've checked the Ostervald Church centenial book and cannot find any trace of Lucas Henrikson's death, and everything else about the family is in this book.

By the church register, I meant the actual book recording all pastoral acts. Ostervold's centennial book may differ from the norm, but usually the anniversary books donot repeat all the pastoral acts, typically only record the confirmands.

The Centenial Book on the Ostervold Church in Finley ND was from the Secretaries notes dating from 1883 to 1983. Everything else was destroyed by a fire in 1943. The information it contains includes baptisms, confirmations, weddings, and funerals.

Thanks for the information about the centennial book contents. Does it include the names of the godparents of the baptisms, as well?

It just lists the year and the name of the child being baptised, it doesn't even list the parents names. They did note that someone translated some of the minutes from Norwegian so it possible that the minutes are more detailed then the book. I'll try to find out if the original minutes are available.

Here is the page, if all goes well, for the arrival of Lucas Henrikson on Wassau noted by Anton earlier:

http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/passenger/001045-119.02-e.php?sisn_id_nbr=3918&page_sequence_nbr=1&interval=20&page_id_nbr=29781&&&&&&&&&&&&&PHPSESSID=6c00id7is926d8srmjaa6kqeh6

It appears he is going to South Dakota.

Thank you for all this great information, I had just been wondering about Mariane's journey and that documentation. Is there any way I can get a copy of the original manifest for her arrival in Canada where her name is interpretated as Mariane Knukson?

Yes, Ancestry.com has a share e-mail function. Post an e-mail address here or send me an e-mail address through Norway Heritage and I will send you an e-mail through Ancestry.com that is an invite to view the document. Click on the phrase "view the document" and you will see the document. I think you can then save it or print it.

That same book of headstone transcriptions has Ellen Iverson and her husband, pg 79:

Invald T. Iverson May 30, 1883-July 2, 1929
Ellen Iverson Oct. 30, 1883-June 7, 1940

From the 1910 census it appears Ingvald took off in 1907 and that Ellen arrived (with baby Inga?) in 1910.

Probably Ingvald's departure thru Trondheim:

Here is their marriage #57:
Kildeinformasjon: Troms fylke, Trondenes, Klokkerbok nr. 12 (1907-1916), Ekteviede 1907, side 306.
Permanent sidelenke: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=6762&idx_id=6762&uid=ny&idx_side=-224

Her father is listed as Tollef Johan Peter Torbergsen

Yes I think that's what happened, they worked as laborer and servant on the Halvorson farm. Can you tell me who Ellen's parents are?

Here is Ellen's family in the 1900 census. Her mother's name is Hilda Henriksdtr:

And here is Hilda with the family in 1865:

I see that Hilda Hendriksdatter was born out of wedlock, was it common practice that a child stayed with the father's family in those days, or did her mother die?

OK Wanda, I sent you an Invitation to View a Document through Ancestry.com. The person of interest is the last person in the list. of 8 people on page 11 of 13. She appears to be travelling as a single female. The person directly above her is Oluf Nellssen a single male and who I am assuming is the same person as the Oluf Nils. from the Digitalarkivet page. I did not find either of them since both names are changed considerably but after searching rather fruitlessly for them I tried Jacob Andes. the third person from the bottom on the list and that proved to work.
