This looks like the family leaving from Stavanger, however the trip date is listed as 1864?

Reg. the two names Sæhl/Sel and Asmarvik/Asmervik.
Origin of Asmervik is Asmundarvik coming from the norse mans name Asmundr; Asmunds vik / Asmunds bay.

Asmervik is located to Sørbø sub parish in Rennesøy, Sørbø church build ca 1150.

Enok Eriksen (Enoch Erischsen) 27 was from Sæl and Berthe Nilsdatter 24 was from Asmervig (Asmervik) when they married dec. 1. 1820, see couple #60

I always find the Stavanger list a bit befuddling. Does anyone on forum know what sources were used for family ref column?

Here is the image of the Nils Enoksen Selen's page at archivianet passenger list page. They categorize it as arriving 29 May 1865. Of course they don't have records from before 1865.

The family is listed in the Rennesøy bygdeboker (Vol. 2) on a 'plass' of the 'Sel' farm there known as "Beite". Page 650.

Nils is not listed in the publication but the church records above prove beyond all doubt that he should have been.

Enok Eriksson and Berta Nilsdtr had at least 8 children born to them and at least 3 or 4 of their sons emigrated to the USA.

Beite (Grazing) was a sub farm under Sæl, Enoks parents and a sister Wendel on a "plass" as cottagers under Sæl.
Enok Eriksen 8 is wrongspelled as Erik Eriksen (Erich Erichssen), link .

I think these are the brothers Enoch and John in the 1880 census. There is a son (of John) also named Enoch who turns up later in later census at Boyd, Nebraska:

Younger Enoch's sister Minnie's death in Illinois:

Brother John E Sell's marriage record:

I'm back on now! I thank all of you for the new information! I have been "poring" over "tons" of parish records for this family. Some is readable and some I can make out names and dates. I can't read Norwegian so only can follow along as much as I can. I haven't found another Niels with the parents listed as Enok and Berthe. I did find one other NIels but he was from the Dahle farm. I have gone bac in ancestry as far as Erik Eriksen and his wife Sissel and their four children--even following them down through descendancey almort to the 1900's. So there are some mysteries that I haven't been able to solve. Lorene
