Thanks to all for this information. I appreciate it.
Lyndal40: - Can you re-post the link to the marriage record for Gottskalk Olsen Heggen and Anna Salvsdatter? The link above is Ingeborg's birth record.
- Looking at Torchel's birth record, the entry directly below suggests that he had a twin sister, Ingeborg. Correct?
- Can anyone suggest a reason behind the apparent discrepancy of the dates of Torchel's emigration (1854 in Ministerialbok, but 1860 in the Passenger and Immigration Lists?
Takk
Don

Perhaps the book, "Polk County Iowa naturalizations, declarations of intent, May 1848 - Oct 1889" can help you solve the problem. ....
Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1500s-1900s Name: Thorkel G. Heggen Year: 1860 Place: Iowa Source Publication Code: 6778 Primary Immigrant: Heggen, Thorkel G Annotation: Date and location of filing of declaration of intent. Per source, the address of the publisher is P.O. Box 2103, Des Moines, IA, 50310.Source Bibliography: PIONEER SONS AND DAUGHTERS, compilers. Declarations of Intent, May, 1848-Oct., 1889, Polk Co., Ia. Des Moines, IA: The Pioneer Sons & Daughters Genealogical Society, 1983. 45p. Page 17
It's not a discrepancy. The year date is probably the date of the filing of his declaration of intention. That filing could be done anywhere at anytime or not at all.
Yes Torkel was 1/2 of a set of twins. |

Quite a few from Fjelberg/Ølen ("Aalunds annex") settled very early in the Story Co. IA area and can be found in the website database for "Norwegian Heritage in Story County and Central Iowa". http://genloc.com/NorStory/
I have at least one relative who also left in 1854 and even listed on the same page of the parish books linked above for 'leaving the parish' who was later tracked to Polk Co. IA, then Story Co. IA and finally resided in Wright Co. IA. That man's younger siblings also emigrated to the same area but they left at various times 5 to 12 years later. It was fun to see those pages again. Good luck with your research. |
