In 1894, three brothers from Norway emigrated to the US from the farm Bjørgjo on Halsnøy. The brothers were named Bernt Johan (John Johnson, 14. feb 1870 - 22. apr 1945), Sjur (Severt Johnson, 11. mar 1872 - 26. may 1950) and Jon (John O. Johnson, 07. apr 1875 - 20. may 1968), and all moved to Minnesota, where they married and had children.

Now, I am currently working on a large family tree for my family, and this branch of the family remains empty, as I have been unable to find more information than the names and dates of birth of their children. So I am now wondering, does anyone here have knowledge of this family?

The three brothers were first cousins of my great-grandfather, Lars Bjørgen (1890-1968).

In advance, thanks for all your help!

kind regards,
Christian

Christian,

Of course I don't know your family but if you want to try to update the family there are several databases of Minnesota births and marriages.

Minnesota Births 1908-1935
www.mnhs.org
(Valuable because mother's maiden name is given!)

Minnesota Births 1935-2001
www.familysearch.org
(Valuable because both parents names are given!)

Thanks for all your info!

As for Severts children, I am 99% certain that "Seliner M." is Martin Johnson, the brother mentioned in Minnies obituary.

Through one of the remaining "old folks" in my family, I learned that four of Severts children once visited Norway a few years after the war; Martin, Henry, Elmer and Gina, aswell as Ginas husband Henry. Appearantly, they were hoping to bring Severt, who at this point was quite ill, but in the end he couldn't handle the trip, and died a few weeks before they visisted (which puts the trip in late 1950). Anyway, they had a picture of them while visiting, and it had written on the back: "Henry, Elmer, Gina and Martin Selmer Johnson visiting Norway, where their father came from".
