quote: Here is the baptism #27 of Frithjof b. 7 Feb 1873
- rather see #24. A very good candidate, in spite of Frithjof changed to Frederick.
The parents were married Nov 11 1870, see #28. The father Bernt Andersen, Baarlidalen, was then a 30 years old widower. The mother Karen Matea Xfersdatter was 21 years and came from Dønum.
Their first child, Ole, was born July 7 1871, see #103.
Bernt Andersen was a widower in the 1865 census.

Karen Mathea was born Jan 27 1849, see confirmation record 3rd from bottom here.
Her parents were Olea Christofersdatter and Christian Olsen. (Most likely Karen Mathea was born out of wedlock).

Thank you all so much for your assistance. All of this information and the links have helped me locate him, well at least his younger years and his relatives. Hopefully I can find more. If you have any further information, please let me know. It is hard to translate the Norweigian language since I am from the US. I really appreciate your help. |

Just wanted to thank everyone for your help. I found Fred's death record and ordered a copy from the state of California. Now I know when, where and what he died from. Now I am in search of his burial site. |

Amy, I tried sending you an e-mail, but the forums won't let me because I haven't posted anything here yet. So I'm writing the message here instead, hoping you see it.
My great-great-great grandfather was Anders Engebretsen, the father of your ancestor Bernt Andersen. (My great-great gandfather was Bernt's brother, Andreas Andersen.)
I'm making a booklet for my mother where I collect everything I can find about her ancestors, and I know that she's especially interested in finding out about the ones who went to the US. My great-grandmother on my mother's mother's side burnt all the correspondance that Bernt and Karen had sent her husband. She called it a "delicious fire," and unfortuantely no one was at home to stop her. From what I've heard, Bernt and Karen had written about encounters with Native Americans, and the brutal life on the farm -- though the stories probably grew as time went by.
Now all we have left of Bernt, Karen and their first born son are some photographs, but until recently no one in our immediate family even knew their names. Thanks to the Internet I've been able to track down who they were and where they ended up settling, but not much more.
That's why I'm writing you. Could you send me an e-mail? (My e-mail is available through the profile here.) I'm hoping we can exchange what we have. I can't send you the original photographs, as they don't belong to me, but I'll send you electronic versions, and I can also send you the information I have on this side of the family. |
