Having these folks land in Minnesota is a good thing if you are trying to find living relatives.

Here is a site to search for Minnesota marriages:
www.mncounty.com

At www.familysearch.org there are databases of Minnesota births 1935-2002 in which parents' names are given.

The 1908-1934 Minnesota birth database at www.mnhs.org will give you mother's maiden name.

At familysearch you can also get transcriptions of the various censuses such as 1900, 1905, 1910, 1920, 1930, 1940, which are searchable. Harvest the names and then put into marriage and birth databases.

It looks like the son Lars Jorstad also lived in Kandiyohi county. As long as they stayed in Minnesota you should be golden.

Isaac Godfrey Jorstad born 06 Mar 1884 in Norway can be found in multiple US census'es and World War I/II Draft Registration Cards

Census-1930 for Superior, Douglas, Wisconsin:

Marjorie Jorstad, daughter,born 1909 Minnesota

Here is an obituary over Ariel Clyde Anderson (1916-2008), who was married to a "Marjorie Jorstad".
3 children:
Pat in Littleton, Colorado (married to Bruce Horn)
Jean in Morris, Illinois (married to Ted Struck)

Ariel is survived by his wife; his three children; a sister-in-law, Lea Anderson, Joliet; eight grandchildren, Mikey (Bambi) Alexander, Scott (Christa Gannon) Alexander, Erika (Chris) James, Jarod (Cheris) Struck, Marc Alexander, Drue Anderson, Kristin Anderson and Jeff Horn; and nine grandchildren, Bethany (David) Anderson, Benjamin Morris, Nicholas Alexander, Keagan James, Chloe Pierson, Maya James, Hailey Alexander, Holten Struck and Luke Alexander. On second thoughts, I'm not sure if this is the correct Marjorie Jorstad...?
Here is an obituary over Edith B. Jorstad (1919-2011), who was married to Wesley E. Jorstad.
It names Marjorie (Ariel deceased) Anderson of Morris, Il as her sister-in-law. Wesley Jorstad is the son of Floyd & Dora Jorstad...

Edit: Marjorie Jorstad who married Ariel Anderson is NOT the daughter of Isaac and Bessie. This Marjorie Jorstad is born 1921, and is a sister of Wesley, and thus a daughter of Floyd and Dora Jorstad.

This could be Geraldine Fay Jorstad Reese, but it could also be a namesake, since I haven't found Geraldine Jorstad's exact birthday

"Richard Godfrey Jorstad" died in 1970 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois.
I believe Richard Godfrey and Betty Jorstad's children are Jennifer Sullivan and Thomas Jorstad. Thomas is married to Suzanne Oxenreiter Jorstad.

Obituary
Willmar Tribune
27 June 1917

Simon L. Jorstad
An old respected citizen of our city passed in the death of S. L. Jorstad, who died at his home in the First Ward last Friday, June 22, after a lingering illness at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 4 days. Simon Larson Jorstad was born July 18, 1840, in Gulbrandsdalen, Norway, where he spent his youth. At the age of 18 he moved to Christiania. In 1887 he moved with family to America, locating at Willlmar in June of that year. He was a painter and decorator by trade. During his thirty years of residence here he was a staunch and faithful member of the Lutheran Free Church.

In 1870 [sic] he married Johanna Jacobson, who survives to mourn with four children -- Mrs. P. C. Peterson, L. A. Jorstad, and I. G. Jorstad of Willmar, and Mrs. H. J. Halvorson of Chicago, Ill., and twelve grandchildren. The deceased is also mourned by one sister in Canada and one brother in Norway.

The funeral occurred on Monday. Services were held at the home, Rev. Nicolay Nilson officiating. Solos were sung by Murtice Halvorson, a granddaughter of the deceased, and by William Rykken. A quartet composed of Misses Ida Sanderson, Lillie Noren, Messrs. Lars Pederson and O. E. Hoagberg sang selections. There were many beautiful floral tributes. The interment took place at the Lutheran Free cemetery, and the bearers were Messrs. E. Holt, John Berg, C. A. Nelson, Nels Olson, and K. T. Rykken.

On Ancestry.com the name "Jorstad" in the 1940 census is transcribed correctly (as Jorstad).

When Isaac and Bessie married he was working for the Great Northern Railroad as a clerk - see the following wedding news story.

Willmar Tribune newspaper
July 26 1905
Isaac Jorstad and Miss Bessie Hyer were united in marriage last Thursday evening at 6 o'clock at the residence of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Jorstad in the First Ward. The ceremony was performed by Rev. E. E. Gyniild and was witnessed by only a few intimate friends and relatives of the contracting parties. Following the ceremony a wedding supper was served. The newly wedded couple left for Minneapolis on the evening train for a few days stay. They returned on Sunday evening and have already gone into housekeeping in the R. T. Hyer residence in the First Ward. Both of the contracting parties are well and favorably known in this city. Mr. Jorstad is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Jorstad, old and respected residents of Willmar. For the past two years he has been employed as clerk at the local Great Northern office [ Note: the Great Northern is a railroad ].He has won for himself a large number of friends there by his genial disposition and exemplary conduct. The bride of his choice is the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Hyer, who were residents of Willmar up to last winter, when they removed to Red Lodge, Montana. The Tribune desires to join the many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Jorstad in wishing them a long, happy and prosperous married life.

So as you found, Isaac Jorstad and wife Bessie Haxby Hyer moved to DC sometime 1935-1940. He still works for a railroad company (not sure if it is the same one).

1940 US Census, Washington DC
Tract 25, District of Columbia, Police Precinct 10, District of Columbia, District of Columbia, United States
Address: Georgia Avenue NW [at] Buchanan Street
Isaac G Jorstad 55 born about 1885 in Norway; has first papers for US citizenship; he is a certifying officer, US Railroad Retirement Board
Bessie Jorstad 56 Illinois
Geraldine Jorstad 24 Minnesota
Richard Jonstad 17 Wisconsin
Residence in 1935: Superior, Wisconsin

In the 1940 census above, Isaac is a "certifying officer, US Railroad Retirement Board." Maybe Isaac must review the applications of railroad employees who are retiring, to make sure their claims to pension money are legitimate, and maybe he administers railroad pension funds in other ways too. Daughter Geraldine is working as a sales lady at a department store.
