He was originally from Norway(Oslo).Born in Approximately 1873. Emigrated to the United States in 1874.Received his citizenship in 1881.I do not have his mother or fathers name. The next bit of information I have on him, was in 1907 he married Rebecca Longshore Reynolds in Kansas. He eventually ended up in California where he died somewhere between 1927-1935. Any information would be helpful. |

If he emigrated when just 1 year old, he must have come with sombody - also did he apply for citizenship by himself when he was only 8 years old - or another thought, he must have been born earlier than 1873.
A Frederick Bennett, born approx 1853 was in Oslo in 1865. He was the foster-son of Thomas Bennett. However, he is not the one you are looking for since he married in Norway in 1890.

Here is the "classic" opening page for the Norwegian digital archives. A search in the "search all database" for fornavn or first name innheld including Bennett finds most in US --about 15- various states none named Anderson, perhaps he will only be found by Fred or Frederick at times?
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&tekst=meldingar&spraak=e
When www.familysearch.org is back up there is a database of California Deaths covering the dates you mentioned which you might browse through (there is not a search engine for that database yet) to find a death date for him.
His listing in the 1900 US Federal census would be of value since it gives a month and year of birth, provided, of course, that the question got asked and answered and that the census taker took it down, etc. |

In the 1910 US census Frederick lists that he immigrated to the US in 1880.
The California Death Index for years 1940 thru 1997 is available through RootsWeb - but does not include the years the poster has estimated. |

There were 13 persons with lastname Bennett in Norway in 1900; 5 in Oslo, 6 in Trondheim and 2 in Bergen.
Fred Andersen leaving Norway at age ca 1. His fathers lastname was most likely Andersen. Bennett? (his mothers lastname?)
Names changed in the US, Another option, less likely; Bennet was americanized from Bernt - Bent.

Thank you for your responses. I am sure I do not have the information correctly. This is why it has been difficult to locate him and his family. I do not know the rules on naming children(Anders son, sen etc) so that makes it even harder to locate him. I really appreciate your input. I am going to try and research more on the information everyone has provided.
Thank you. |

It is very difficult to determine who the infant Fred Anderson is travelling with when looking at the original manifest. The closest person to him with a first name that fits him is Anders ?. Identified by the transcriber as Anders Jargarson. Above Fred are in order:
Anders Jargarson, Ole Gulson age 22 and Janes Hansen age 27. Below him are Minnie Johanson age 18 and Marie Graskriah age 18. I have followed the spelling of the transcriber, however the names are somewhat difficult to read.

The US Census records for him are fairly consistent that he was born about 1873 and immigrated in 1873. In 1920 he is listed as birth abt 1873 and immigration in 1873. In 1930 he listed as age 37 birth abt 1874 an immigration 1874. Here is his record for 1910.
1910 United States Federal Census Name: Frederick B Anderson [Fredrick B Anderson] Age in 1910: 37 [36] Birth Year: abt 1874 [1874] Birthplace: Norway Home in 1910: Wakeeney, Trego, Kansas Race: White Gender: Male Immigration Year: 1874 Relation to Head of House: Head Marital Status: Married Spouse's Name: Rebecka L Anderson Father's Birthplace: Norway Mother's Birthplace: Norway

Was Bennet Fredericks 2. firstname and not his middlename? Two first names are common in Norway. Or Americanized from Ben.......?
An example; An Bennet Anderson born 1868 in Valdres See ca 1/3 down page here.
Bennet existed as a very rare firstname in Norway, only four in 1865 and one in 1900.
