My g. g. grandfather was Elling Fredriksen Ringerud. I visited the Ringerud farm and the Bergsund farm (where my g. grandmother (Anne Ellingsdatter Bergsundeie) was born in 1845. After her father's death she emigrated to America in 1861 with her mother, Ingeri Ostensdatter (second wife of Elling) and her sister Berit, and married my g. grandfather, Elling Pedersen Enger, in Wisconsin. I will have to look up Fredrik Fredriksen. Maybe they were related!
That was smart thinking
Fredrik Fredriksen Grythe´s parents are; Fredrik Olsen Grythe 1815-1884 and Gunnild Olsdr. Elsrud. Fredrik 1815 was son of Ole Fredriksen Ringerud and Marie Christensdatter Semmen. Perhaps your Elling Fredriksen age 12 in 1801 was Ole´s younger brother, see here

You are kidding me! That means that the two families were related. It really is a small world!! My g. g. grandfather was Elling Fredrikssen Ringerud, born 1789. His father was Fredrik Olssen Ringerud, born 1742/43 and his father was Ole Fredrikssen Ringerud born 1715/16. |

It´s almost unbelievable.
It correspond with the Elsrud (highly reliable) genealogy "Homes and people in Ċdalen", all in Norwegian, sorry, the info is here
It looks like Elsrud do not have a home page.

Ole Fredriksen Ringerud, married to Maria Christiansdatter, was the oldest brother of my g. g. grandfather Elling Fredriksen Ringerud, don't have his exact birthdate. He first married Berit Pedersdatter who drowned in the Grythe River in 1837. He secondly married my g. g. grandmother, widow Ingrid Ostensedatter, on 20 March 1842. She was born in 1808, confirmed at Viker, previously married to soldier Asle Clemmetsen and had Christian and Gunhild. With Elling Fredriksen she had two daughters, Berit, born 1842, and Anne, born 1845. Elling died in 1861 and Ingrid and her two daughters emigrated to America. Anne married my Elling Pedersen Enger of Eggedal in Wisconsin, 1865. That's how I got here! |

According to my records the Ole Fredriksen married to Maria Christiansdatter was age 29 in 1801 and was baptized 14 June 1772. (See Digitalarkivet 1801 census for 0613 Norderhaug living on Ringerud). His father, Fredrik Olsen Ringerud was baptized 27 January 1743. His father Ole Fredriksen was baptized 15 Jan 1716 and buried 29 June 1755. My g. g. grandfather Elling Fredriksen was age 12 in 1801 which would have made his birth in 1789. His older brother Ole Fredriksen was the farmer. Fredrik Olsen Ringerud died in 1799 so Ole had taken over the farm by 1801. |

Right page 9 & 10 line from top, link
Frich Ringerud og (and) Giertrud Knudsdatters Barn (Child) Elling Last of the godparents was Mari Thorsdatter, probably Fredriks (Frichs) mother.
Putting the right age in a census, the question was; How old are on your next birthday.

Thank you! I have been looking for his birth and just knew "about 1789". I just saw the message that Norway Heritage is going to be discontinued. That's awful!! |

It is sad. It is certainly a lot of work to keep this form updated. Hopefully the light is not a oncoming train but the end of the tunnel

I believe that hundreds have been helped here. As a volunteer it has given a lot back in return of gratitude from those who have been helped. We can only hope there is a solution so that Norway Heritage may continue.

I certainly hope so. I would be willing to contribute something each month. I can't do a lot, but if enough people would do it--maybe by pledge or whatever--it could work. I have contributed on an irregular basis before, but not regularly. I just don't think about it until I need it! |
