Helge Olsen Hellerud was born 28 Oct 1820, Eggedal Parish, Buskerud, Norway. He married Ingeborg Thoresdatter Tollefsrudie, born 10 Mar 1830, Flaa Parish, on 9 Jan 1851, in the Flaa Church, Flaa Parish, Buskerud. They had one son, Ole Hellerud, born 17 Jan 1851, before they left for America in about 1852. Family information is that Helge, Ingeborg and son Ole, possibly with three brothers of Helge (these names are unknown to me), left for America between 1852 and 1854, route: possibly Drammen, Norway to Quebec, Canada. From Quebec, they went to Hamilton Co, Wisconsin. I know they were in Hamilton Co, Wisconsin by 17 Mar 1855, because their son, Even, was born there then. Therefore, they must have traveled to America between 17 Jan 1851 and 17 Mar 1855. I am looking for the ships passenger list for this family. |

I believe I have access to a copy of the list of passengers on Drafna in 1852. I 'll check for your names. |

Info tells the family left Drammen Mai. 23.1854 with Bark Balder, Christian Tofte was captain, and arrived Quebeck July 4. link
Some confusing information in the link above, you are right abut that they married in Flå Jan. 9. 1851. A dau. Kari born 1871 in Norway??
They left Flå 1852, rec. on Mai 5. See right page #109-110-111 Bark Christiane with captain Tofte left Drammen Mai 13 and arrived Quebeck July 3.

Thanks for the information, but it looks like some of the information on the genealogical Web site is incorrect. It doesn't seem likely that they emigrated in 1854, since they visited the minister in Flå on May 5, 1852. It is possible that they changed their minds, but they are not listed among the emigrants who left in 1854. I still think it is more likely they were on one of the ships that left Drammen in May 1852. Hopefully, there is a passenger list for the Drafna, since it landed in New York. But if the genealogical Web site is correct, the family did go to Quebec, so it is more likely they were on one of the other three ships leaving Drammen in May for Quebec. |

Helges older brother, Stener Olsen, his wife and 4 children also left for Amerika in 1852, see #112.
Their mother, widow Ingeborg Stenersdatter, also left in 1852, see #124.

Re Drafna 1852. The original contract between Capt Ekeberg and Assor Halstenson Grøth and Kittel Finnesgaard contained 143 names, mostly rendered as given name, patronymic name & farm name. The arrival list when Drafna came to New York 15 July 1852 / 16 July 1852 contained 185, written as initials with last name and age. Clair Groth, a grand son of Assor Groth, and others studied the two lists and compiled a list of the names reflecting both sources. Unfortunately, it appears that there is no family headed by Helge or Stener on the combined list. The original contract is reported to have been returned to "Hallingdal in July 1992."
Ingeborg reports her year of migration in 1900 census as 1853: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M9S5-QZK and the story about the family in the Festskrift published in 1916 about the history of the Norway Lake Lutheran churches says the family came in 1854:
"Helge Hellerud, from Eggedal. Came to Hamilton County, Wisconsin 1854; to Rice County, Minnesota 1857; to Norway Lake 1865. Married with Ingebord Thorsdatter, from Hallingdal.'
So if Helge & family came to US in 1852 when they got their permissions, their location before 1854 isn't noted.
Also in this database at www.rootsweb.com there is a daughter Ingeborg b. 1852 in the Helge family. There are quite a few discrepancies within the database, so be wary. But no birthplace listed for Ingeborg but you might want to write the folks to see what evidence there is for this child:

Also a couple of years ago there was a topic about Helge and Ingeborg at norwayheritage:
www.norwayheritage.com/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=283&SearchTerms=hellerud" target="_blank">http://www.norwayheritage.com/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=283&SearchTerms=hellerud |
