Could anyone help me with information about a man named Reidar RUDMOGEN og RUMAGEN
All I know is that he arrived 28 dec 1912 in New York. He was 15 years old, born in Kongsberg. He arrived with a ship called Majestetic who came from Southampton.
He traveled alone, maybe he changed his surname.
Have found a name in USA: Etta Rumagen and a family name related to her named MANGRUM

I am thankful for all types of data.

Where did you find Etta?

It would be good to have a look at the actual manifest of Reidar's arrival in New York to see if there is a destination included.

Probably the arrival of Reidar. Original manifest lists mother Birgit Rudmogen, occupation Seaman.

There are three men who appear to be travelling together. They are all listed as seamen. They are Harold Johnson age 23, Hans Seeberg age 19 and Reidar Rudmogen age 15. All going to New York plus an unreadable city.

Since Reidar was listed as a seaman in his original listing, this listing for a similar name might be of interest. His is isted as an Alien Crew Listing. It is a little interesting that one of his crew mates on this ship is a Harold Johnson age 23 listed as being from Philadelphia as is Reidar. Reidar is listed as messboy.

Arrival Date: 3 Mar 1913
Port of Arrival: New Orleans, Louisiana

I missed this in my first look at the Crew List for the ship with Reidar Rudendgen but another Crew Member was Hans Seeberg ( shown here as Haus Seeberg). So it would look like Reidar was a seaman with his two friends Harold and Hans.

New Orleans, Passenger Lists, 1813-1945
Name: Haus Secberg
Arrival Date: 3 Mar 1913
Port of Arrival: New Orleans, Louisiana
Age: 19
Birth Date: abt 1894
Port of Departure: Cardenas
Ship Name: Dagfin

I can find a lot of references to a Hans C Seeberg as a seaman in the Ancestry.com crew lists, however in the ten or so I looked at only two contained a possible Reidar. This is likely the Hans Seeberg that I tracked.

Web: Norway Burial Index, DIS-Norge, 1700-2010

Death Date: abt 1962
Burial Date: 17 Apr 1962

Thank you for all your help. I'm still trying to trace him in USA or find his family. That's not easy. The name Etta Rudmogen is from a google search I did, and this link came up:
http://www.paragoulddailypress.com/articles/2009/12/25/obituaries/doc4b32ccd8280e0745689678.txt
I can se that his surname maybe changed. It makes it maybe impossible to find out anything about his descendants? I'm new to this ;-)

The surname Remagen is fairly common in that part of the state of Arkansas but nothing shows any link to Norway.

I've looked at a lot of things for Reidar. In SSDI at www.genealogybank.com there was no Reidar with any last name with a birthdate of 20 Mar 1897.

In the US 1930 Merchant marine census schedule, there was no Reidar of any last name born 1897 in Norway.

In the World War I draft registration cards at www.familysearch.org there was no Reidar born Norway on 20 Mar 1897.

When I've seen Norwegian Reidar become something else in US it became Roger. Rudmogen could be broken down to Rud, Ruud, Rude, Rudh, Rood or Mogen or rendered as Morgan. Reidar was also an Olson if they followed the naming practice.

Did Reidar's mother have an estate when she died? Perhaps Reidar is named with a location in it. Did any other aunts, uncles or cousins come to US--maybe he settled down near them?

Hmm, this seems to be difficult. Reidar Rumagen had two sisters back in Norway, one of them my grandmother. She never told anything about her brother. Maybe that indicates he died young without own family?
My grandmother is dead, my mother is dead, and I have no other information than that he was born in Kongsberg and that he arrived New York at age 15. And now we know that he worked as a messboy down to New ORLEANS.
Here all info seems to stop. Thank you for all your help and Merry Christmas to you all!
