Looking for a Svend B Førre, born 1907 in Førdesfjorden in Norway, would like to find the farm place he lived in Norway? and he emigrated to the US,don't know the year of emigration but he supposedly lived and worked on a farm in the Midwest, would love to find out where? Svend B Førre drowned when he was working on a boat on the East coast in 1949? His grave is supposed to be in Conneticut, anyone who can find something on the accident or grave? Information on this would be greatly appreciated. |

A possible candidate is #10. Parents living on the farm Førde (= Førre) but his name Sven Elius does not quite go with Svend B.
The 1910 census gives the answer, his father is there called Bendik Hansen and Svend = Svein Bendiksen, farm name is Førde = Førre.

So Sven Elius in the churchbook is the same person as in the 1910 Cencus? And where did he live on a farm in Førdesfjorden. And I think he married before he emigrated too? |

This record possibly belongs to him. However his name has a line drawn though it on the original manifest.

That's amazing how do I do a groundsearch in newspapers for an article about the drowning. Why is he listed as single,I know he had a wife and two children in Norway, when he died! |

Here is a link to the Ask-a-Librarian at the Old Lyme public library. You could send a request for obituary lookup through this to the reference librarian. There may be charges for the service, every library varies in policies& practice.
http://www.oldlyme.lioninc.org/ask-a-librarian/
Since he died in an accident but was not a resident of Old Lyme the story, if there is one, might be a news article rather than an obit.
Another place for newspapers would be the local historical society, but historical societies are usually strapped for cash so there is almost certainly going to be a charge for service from them
There appears to be a couple of titles for papers (not online but microfilmed) in Old Lyme at the Chronicling America site but dates are very limited and may not have the 1949 date you need:
http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn94053055/holdings/
You might also want to see if there is a volunteer lookup service at www.usgenweb.com click connecticut click new london wherein a genealogist volunteers to look up an obit for you. Usually there is a Lookup tab for any county that has a volunteer.

The actual death certificate usually contains information about the disposal of the body, if buried, where, if donated to science, or transported elswehere, etc. The funeral home which handled the body also may be found on the certificate and they or their business survivor might have information. All of this, provided of course, that he wasn't buried at sea, as sometimes happened. |

jkmarler is suggesting that you order the death certificate. The death certificate contains more information than what is available online. It should tell the funeral home and cemetery or whatever the disposition of the body.
I believe you also asked another question as well: "Christian W Hendrickson in New Richland Minnesota, where did he come from in Norway? he was born in about 1895 not sure though." Volunteer researchers are talking to you in that thread. mvh |

Here is a link to the Department of Health where there is ordering information for Connecticut death certificates. It doesn't give the fee but there will certainly be one:
