I am looking for my Great-great grandfather's record of immigration. His name is Rasmus Johnson b1819 , wife is Martha. Children are Karen , Antonette, John, Martha, Mons and Mathew. Rasmus Johnson and family Were born in Ringsaker Hedmark Norway. We believe they immigrated in 1859 or 1860 based on children's birth places. Is this enough information? |

Thank you so much. Does it give the name of the ship in these records? |

No, the udflyttedes are lists of people who got pastor's permission to leave a parish. They were supposed to get this but not all folks bothered. This family's record is nice since it gives birthdates of all the children.
In most cases, during this era, you are not going to be able to get the ship's list for your people. Unless a ship was landing in America, few of the lists were kept. The lists are recorded at the first port of landing, not necessarily, where the folks got off the boat. The majority of Norwegians were not travelling directly to America at this time. Most were taken on "feeder" ships to ports in Great Britain and transferred to bigger ships to cross the ocean. Some ships did land in America first but most landed in Canadian ports such as Montreal, etc. The records of landing for Quebecois ports in Canada begin about 1865.
Journey stories are sometimes preserved within the family or published in histories and obituaries. |

Thank you so much! Yes we suspect they went through a Canadian port. It's nice we have a date though :) |

Have you looked at the database and ship information on this site? If you look at the departures of 1859 you will see the majority conclude in Quebec... |
