The Cambria departed from Glasgow, arriving in NY 26 June 1869. Cannot find date of departure on manifest or on this site. When would it have departed or how long was the voyage from Glasgow to NY in 1869?
Thanks.
Jon

I believe the database on this site covers direct from Norway to North America voyages. Voyages originating from Britain are usually not covered here.

Go to Ship Arrivals 1870-1894 and you will see that are many departures from Liverpool, Glasgow, etc. with arrivals around the world. The only Norwegian distinction is that these arrivals were reported in Norwegian newspapers.

I'm corrected. But your voyage is still not there since the beginning date is 1870. You could try a longer shot at www.genealogybank.com using the newspaper archive entering ship name and modifying by date and topic of passenger lists. It'll be jumbled but you might find what you're looking for.

Thanks JK for responding to my post and your suggestion of GenealogyBank. You are correct that the search for arrivals does not begin until 1870. However, it is sometimes possible to obtain ship voyage info on this site for years prior to 1870. For example, the info on the SS Cambria, shows that this ship was built by Anchor line and launched on May 1, 1869. Its maiden voyage to NY was May 8, 1869. Unfortunately, the departure date is not given, so I am not sure how long the voyage took. There are several departures from Liverpool, Bergen, Oslo, etc. to New York or Quebec which give me some idea of the length of the voyage, but ideally I would like to be more specific about Glasgow to NY in June 1869.
I am looking for a passenger who departed Goteborg on 01 June 1869 for Leith (my second post) and took a transatlantic ship from Glasgow. I cannot find his arrival on Ancestry.com or Castle Garden.com. I am also looking at Shipslist.com for ideas.

You could look at the New York Times archive. Their search engine can be manipulated to look at specific dates and the database goes back to 1851:
