Looking for information on my great-grandfather, Knud Martinus Halvorsen who was born on April 7, 1869 in Austre Moland, Norway. He had 10 siblings. His father was Halvor Gunnufsen and his mother was Sigrid Knudsdatter. Any help would be appreciated!

I did see this posting, but unfortunately, but great-grandfather's information was not part of that particular posting. It did have wonderful information on his father which I really appreciated seeing!

Also trying to find my great-great grandfather's (Gunnuf Halvorsen B: 1766 and D: 1/21/1847 in Evje, Aust-Agder) father's name. I know his mother was Thora Johnsdatter and his first name was Halvor. Thanks everyone!

All of this information has been fantastic! Thanks everyone!

I have a question regarding cemeteries and burials. Is there any record of where my ancestors are buried? Are there headstones?

Typically & historically, burials are made in the churchyard where the services are held. Here is a link to DIS Gravminner i Norge (Headstones of Norway). Ancestry does bring up DIS database. But older stones may or may not be still in existence.

It has been church on Evje since the 1300s.

The old Syrtvedt family was buried in the cemetery at Evje stavechurch demolished 1833, location unknown. Only the altar is preserved on Norsk Folkemuseum Oslo.
The bell is missing!!!
A new chursh was build by Anders Thorsen Syrtvedt, he was from Iveland and bought Syrtvedt 1814.
This church was to small and was demolished 1890 and a new Evje-kyrkje was build 1891.

Probably only headstones from late 1800s is preserved.
There is a but; I am not sure if the new church has the same cemetery as the older church.

I can make a search tomorow.

There are 37 persons named Syrtveit (Syrtvedt) buried in Aust-Agder.
The oldest I found was "lĉrar og kyrkjesongar" teacher and church singer Clemmet G. (Gunnufsen) Syrtveit b. June 22. 1829 buried in Evje cemetery 1898, link
His parents; Gunnuf Halvorsen and Ragnidl Clemetsdatter Syrtvedt.

Syrtveit is located by the river Otra and is the northern farm in Evje parish and was one farm around 1600 before by inheritance in two-three generations it was divided into five farms, ifo in Norwegian includes a map

Evje is south in the beautiful valley Setesdal

The name Syrtveit comes from the small river Syċ running into the river Otra.
Otra is a good fishing river, a "foss" waterfall located close to Syrtvedt is named Syrtveit fossen
