There is not a farm called Drangsolt found in the 1865 census in Norway and Drangsolt / Drangsholt is a fairly uncommon name in America. The only family in Polk county, Minnesota using this name is Sam Dringsholt / Salve O Drangsolt family.

Ole Kalhoft living with his son Sam Dringsholt in 1900:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M93Z-QYN

Salve O Drangsolt (Ole Nelsen Kalhoft living with him and a woman named Thora Kalhoft)in 1895 census:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MQ6J-X2G

Ole Kalhoft’s death record:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FDMF-32L

Ole Nielsen Kalhoft family in 1865:
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebCens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=7&filnamn=f60937&gardpostnr=314&personpostnr=1890&merk=1890#ovre

In the Ancestry Baltimore Passenger Lists 1820-1948 on the 29 June 1882 arrival of a ship called the Hohenzollern from Bremen, Germany lines 370371-390 are people all given the last name Kalhoft. I believe these are the same people in Polk County, Minnesota. There is a Salve Nielsen Kalhoft age 55, Ole Kalhoft age58, Salve Ole Kalhoft, etc. Unfortunately do not see a Gunvor in this travel group even though there is a Gunvor with Ole Kalhoft family in the 1865 Norwegian census.

A further connection between the Drangsholt named people and the Kalhoft named people is found in the estate papers filed in Saskatchewan for Salve N. Kalhoft. One of his daughters called Esther / Estie is married to Sam O Drangsholt, aged 57 and lives in Saskatchewan.

Thanks again for the information. I have lots of information now anyways, so can pass it on to the family of Gunvor. Maybe they'll check themselves, if they want to find out more.

My mother-in-law came from Drangsholt in Tveit, and some of her family emigrated. That's why I wanted to know how the Drangsholt name was related here.

Should have been more specific--there is no farm spelled Drangsolt (which is how it appears in a couple of records here in US and Canada). There is however a Drangsholt. What is kind of bizarre is that these Kalhoft people came from Evje, so why did one child among the many adopt Drangsolt/ Drangsholt/Dringsolt for a name? Mystery...

Salve Olsen Kalhoft (later known as Salve O Drangsholt) left from Tveit in 1882. Here is the baptism of Salve's son Salve, #8:

Kildeinformasjon: Vest-Agder fylke, Tveit, Ministerialbok nr. A 6 (1872-1886), Fødte og døpte 1879, side 35.
Permanent sidelenke: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=953&idx_id=953&uid=ny&idx_side=-36

So Salve picked up the Drangsholt name from where he was living when he took off to America.

Thanks again, for all the information. The part about the Kalhoft estate papers in Saskachewan, with Esther being married to Sam O. Drangsholt, bears looking into. Had noticed an Ester mentioned on ancestry, for that family tree, so now see how she is possibly connected. You all have been a great help.

Diane, if the family opts to get the Mrs. Olaf Gunderson obit I hope that the information in it might be posted. Because of the era, there may not be too much more information but it would be nice to see it.

Here is Salve Olsen's and Asgjer Salvesdatter's (those who became Sam and Esther Drangsholt) marriage record. Although the record doesn't contain that specific information, it is possible that Salve and Asgjer were first cousins--take a look at their father's names and consider that 2 men of exactly those names came to America and for a time lived in Polk County, Minnesota.:

One other mystery is who is Josephine Kalhoft in the 1906 census in Saskatchewan--could she be Josephine Gunderson, Gunvor's daughter?

Josephine Kalhoft age 11 b. Minnesota in Saskatchewan servant to Ole S Kalhoft, John S. Kalhoft, Rignild Kalhoft:

Salve and Asgjer were first cousins,
Salves father was Ole Nielsen, he was born Dec 19 1824, #5.

Asgjers father was Salve Nielsen, he was born Aug 11 1826, #43.

Their parents Nils Olsen and Tora Salvesdatter were married July 6 1824, #19.

Would someone else be willing to check for a confirmation for Gunvor Olsdatter Kalhoft? I've been through both Evje and Evje/Hornæs a couple of times looking for both a confirmation and a funeral but have not found either.

Thanks again, for all the information. No Josephine Kalhoft is not Josephine Gunderson.-Gunvor's daughter. Josephine married Halvor Fjeld born in 1881 in Drammen, Buskerud, Norway.
Is Kiile, mentioned after Salve Nielsen's name a small place he was from?

Yes, Kile is a farm in Hægeland parish. But you can forget Gunvor Salvesdatter Kile, born 1862. She (and her siblings) are still in Norway in 1900 census: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=3&filnamn=f01015&gardpostnr=99&personpostnr=552&merk=552#ovre
