Apparently, Erlen's trip to Chile in 1901 didn't last forever. Here is an Erlen Ols. Nergaard, resident of America going to Minneapolis in 1902:

The occupation of sailor would be a good explanation for tripping to exotic spots like Chile but doesn't explain going to land-locked Minneapolis. And he answered no to which relative, friend he was going to in Minneapolis. F. Olsen paid the fare. Is there another brother or is it just a badly rendered E or some completely different person. And was in US in 1897...Curiouser and curiouser.....

Here's a link to Minneapolis city directory for 1902 on page of F____ Olson:

pg 1158 finds one F a Fanny Olsen.

There are quite a few Negaard in Minnesota. An E. O. Negaard lives in Arctander, Kandiyohi, Minnesota in 1885 Minnesota state census; he is age 43 then, and age 63 in the 1905 state census, so it is a different E. O. Negaard....

Hi Folks.
Thanks to Jane it has been possible for me to confirm that the Lars Olson from Multnomah, Portland, Oregon is not our Lars Olson but instead Lars Olson Hermstad from Statsbygd in South Trøndelag who also emigrated in 1903. This persons date of birth from the church-book is exactly the same as given in the ww1 draft record. So back to square one on this one.

1918 Minnesota Alien Registration Records
Order Alien Registration Search

The Minnesota Alien Registration of 1918 was conducted to register all foreign born persons who were living in Minnesota, but who had not yet become US citizens. The resident was required to complete a 35 question schedule and to provide much personal information, including kind and amount of property holdings. In addition to the resident's name each entry gives the county and township, village, lumber camp or city in which the form is filed.

The Iron Range Research Center holds microfilmed copies of the original 1918 Alien Registration documents for all 87 Minnesota counties, and has created an index for those entries that can be searched by clicking on the tab above. Copies of documents can be ordered through the website once a record has been identified.

What tab? Please forward it.
