I have been given a translation of a history of Taljge written in 1869 by Rasmus Knudsen Gaard of Halsno District School. At some point it was reproduced in a publication called AEtt og Heim, with an introduction by Lisabet Risa. Her introduction was titled Rasmus Knudsen Gaard's Farm History. His manuscript was titled About Gaard in Sor-Talgje. Unfortunately there is no citation included and the person in Canada who did the translation has died. There is one footnote dated 1952, so the publication had to be after that date.
I am currently writing the story of my Gaard ancestors who lived onTalgje and would very much like to be able to cite the original source for this document. I'm hoping someone will be able to find it for me. |

If you spell the publication as Ætt og Heim and run an Internet search you will find a number of good references to that periodical. A decent citiation can be constructed using that info depending on exactly how you intend to style that citation. |

Thanks Harald. Given the number of years this journal has been published, I know that pinning down the exact citation may be a lot to ask, but I think it is worth trying. I have e-mailed Rogaland-Historie. I'll let you know the result. |

I'd be interested to know if you learn about any online index to that periodical. I browsed through the website but was 'flummoxed'.
The Salt Lake City Family History Library appears to have a pretty good collection of 'Ætt og Heim' on their shelves. |

There is no on-line index, but I had a reply from Rogaland Historie. In case someone is interested in looking at the article, the citation is:
Risa, Lisabet: Rasmus Knudsen Gaard sin gardhistorie. An introduction with the presentation of Rasmus Knudsen Gaards manuscript: Om Gaard i Sor Talgje, written in 1869. Printed in the annual journal of Rogaland Historie-og AEttesogelag, 1977, page 108-135.
If there is a way to get Norwegian characters in this web site I haven't figured it out. Sor should have a slash through it.
Thanks Harald for pointing me in the right direction. |

Yes, I believe so. The University of Wisconsin Madison is also a participant in the American Inter-Library Loan Program so they might loan it to another participating library.
The 1977 volume is also on the shelves of the Salt Lake City Family History Library - but they don't loan out books or periodicals, only films or microfiche. |

Interesting that Wisconsin has the journals. I received the citation directly from Lisabet Risa who wrote the introduction to Rasmus' history in 1977. It was a stroke of luck to have found her since she knew exactly where to look without spending a lot of time or energy.
So another mystery is solved. Thanks to both of you for your ideas and your help. |
