Please help me understand!!!
I have got a copy of "Alien Registration and declaration of Holdings" from Minnesota for Nils Olson Lillebakken. In this he states that his wife is dead but in his WW1 registration Card, which he filled in 6 months later, he lists his wife as Marit Lillebakken (which is correct). He also claims to have 3 children in Norway but only one is known to me and the family. So I wonder, could he in any way benefit from giving incorrect informations on this form?

Not sure that there are any "benefits" to be obtained by claiming or not claiming anything on the Alien Registration. Because of the era when the information is taken (WWI) it might not be a good thing to be a German national.

On the WWI form, it might be that a man with a family might less likely be drafted for service--although I know of men who listed themselves as sole support of wife and children and got drafted anyway. Draftablility might depend on local conditions of whether or not the draft board was making their quota of draftees or not.

I did look at the births & baptisms in Rindal from 1898-1907 when Marie was born and found only the one time Nils was listed as father.

His brother or a man named same as his brother Lars Olson Lillebakken, however cut a wide swath, father of 3 in the same time:

Perhaps Nils had children in some other parish or there were children born to his wife who later died?
