Having found the dødsfallprotokoll record for my great great grandmother Karen Knudsdatter, I’m wondering how reliable generally or within other researcher’s experience, is the actual information contained in them. For instance it says Karen has an adult daughter in America but the listing does not include her son “Pete” Pederson (my great grandfather) who was still in Norway in 1891. Why omit him? The lensmann (sheriff or bailiff) has kept the record, why and for what purpose? Thanks for any help understanding this record and any comments re the attest date on Ottilie Marie’s confirmation record.

Kåre , So chances are good that Karen's dodsfallsprotokol is correct and that Ottilie with the attest date 5 Sept 1889 came to US and was over here when her mother died? Or in your experience are dodsfallsprotokol suspect? |

"Dødsfallprotokoll" is a correct dokument conducted by the Sheriff and can be compared with a probate. Today its the magistrate who conduct the "Dødsfall protokoll" and the doc. shall mentioned heirs since all accounts temporary are stopped
