I have been looking for OTTESEN because the wife of Nils A (Anderson) Fjeld was named Dorthe Ottesdatter on a ship REFONDO'S list of 1867..They probably came from Hedmark/Oppland. The names of Arne OTTESEN and his brother Halvor were traveling to Red Wing Minnesota (which is where the above Dorthe and husband went on arriving in the US..
But I could not find them in RedWing in the 1870 MN census --- I did find an Arne OTTESON in 1880 but he was in Wisconsin.. and I find an Ole OTTESEN in the same county, Goodhue, like Redwing - working in a blacksmith shop and living with its owner, Nels Rodland..
I also have a list of OTTESEN passengers on the Solem Swiggum and Austheim emigration ship index but none of them fit your OTTERSONS which of course is not the exact same spelling as mine...
It is also suggested that my family came from a place named Goel -- Idon't know if that is near yhour Mykleby, Storedevedalen as my Norwegian geography is not good and my maps are pretty basic..
I hope this has helped you... If you think the families are connected in some way I would appreciate knowing that...Marjorie

Thanks, keep me in mind if you find any more clues. So far I have not found "Mykleby, Storedevedalen" in Norway but I am sure that someone has. And, I don't rule out a link between Otteson and otterson. Thanks again.

Mykleby (Møkleby) is a farm in Storelvdal (in 1865-census: Storelvedalen in Aamot) in the County of Hedmark, north of Elverum.
