Reading this topic from 2010 I am not sure if Søren Olsen Ims is the right person espesially since he was back farming on Ims with 3 brothers in 1865

Here is a Saurin Oleson aged 15 (so about right for birth in 1835) in the 1850 Census transcription for LaSalle county, Illinois. Does not appear to be surrounded by relatives or at least people who share his patronymic name...:

Of course Soren's father could also be dead by 1850 and not listed at all in the census or transcription. There are a total of 196 in LaSalle county whose last name starts with "Ol"

The Volume I of Norwegian Immigrants, also has this identification of Søren Olson as Søren Knudson Hetletvedt. It says the family came on the Norden from Stavanger arriving in New York on 20 July 1836. The father Knud is mentioned as being born in Nedstrand.

Here is the father Knud's family in 1801:

The oldest son of Knud and Sigri appears to have married a sister of Sophie Danielson. At least according to the Family Tree on Ancestry.com.

Olav Ole Olson Hetletveit
Birth 23 Apr 1824 in Wallem, Åardal, Rogaland, Norway
Death 20 Feb 1907 in Iowa City, Wright, Iowa, USA

married to
Birthe Toresdatter Danielson
Birth 06 Sept. 1830 in Wallem, Åardal, Rogaland, Norway
Death 17 Apr 1919 in Lasalle, Illinois, USA

married in 1851 in Norway ?

While some of the information in this set of Family Trees maybe accurate, the geography may not be.

i'm fairly sure the 1st Soren is correct. the Broughton, Livingston county fits and the death is exactly as is on grave. the birth on the grave is slightly different, 11/9/1835.

the family info matches the 1880 US census exactly! this has to be him but it means he immigrated at age 6 months. this still leaves me confused about his parents and immig ship? BTW, our family will cherish this little article you found! tks

What is your confusion about baptism records? The man in the linked narrative is shown as being a Latter-Day Saint -- they have quite different baptisms than did the Norwegian Lutherans.

Shipping records? Do you mean emigration records?

i'm new to this but i thought the Kåarto post fit almost exactly what i know about the family. the 2 different birthdates are comparing a gravestone and a newspaper article. that is the only birth information i can find. yes, i was referring to emigration records. the birthdate and reported emg date of 1836 imply he emg. at about 6 months old so i am still struggling to find a match. tks
