Thank you all for helping out! Now I've got so much new and valuable information about Caroline and George Gilbetson and the rest of the family. I have also got new information about the familyfriend Carl Berg and the link to Kongsvinger and Olaf Stømner. All this will make my story about the siblings Peter and Caroline more credible. The information about George Gilbertsons roots in Norway gave me the key to start searching in DIS Norway, and now I've got the family records back to ca 1630. During my work with Caroline, this "cousin R. Amundsen" has kept me wondering about her family because she also is my relative. I know quite a lot about her roots in Norway, but nothing about Amund. I think I'll start a new topic about him in this forum, just to reach more people who might know something.

Now I have looked through all the information you guys have provided. About Amund Amundson: In the memorial from Find a Grave, I could see his exact day of birth, 29 may 1856. I have used Familysearch and located him to Sør-Odal, the same parish as his wife Randi. He is born "outside" (uægte) marriage. The father is Amund Amundsen Holt from Vinger and Rangdi Gulliksdatter Hærnes. Hærnes is a rural area with some smaller farms south of the river Glomma between Galterud and Sander. And it is in the same neighbourhood Lena Gilbertson's father lived before he moved to Sjøenden. Now I will try to find more of his ancestors. I am also interested in all information from the US. I don't think there is a need to create a new topic about Amund. I already have a good starting point.

Would you know when Olaf Stømner was born? Maybe interesting to find any relation to Carl Berg? I find two possibilities in Vinger, Hedmark; Olaf Martinsen Stømner and Olaf Olsen Stømner.
Olaf Martinsen Stømner Born 03 Mar 1888 Parents: Martin Gulliksen & Marthea Olsdatter Census-1900 Emigrating to America 1910
Olaf Olsen Stømner Born 24 Jun 1889 Parents: Ole Isaksen & Karen Nilsdatter Census-1900

No, I just remember the name. But he lived at Stømner when I was a child. Stømner is located south of Glomma just a couple of kilometers before Kongsvinger, and I think it is two small farms. I don't think the right one ever went to America. Then it has to be the one born in 1889.

One Olaf A. Stømner lived here in 1950. Maybe it could be this one. The family is from Kongsvinger, but they are living at Stømner in Tune, Østfold, so it seems very unlikely.

Interesting. I don't know about the "A", but the place is familiar. The railway is dividing the property, but I think it is a part of Stømner. Maybe Olaf A is not from Stømner, but has married a woman from Stømner and picked the name from the place. That was usual at that time. I think the house is from about 1915. Maybe he is a relative of my grandfather. I really don't know.

Thank you, Jane. I have already left a public message for this person at his profile. The profile is very limited and offer no direct e-mail adress. It's about a year anybody was active here, but I hope the person will be notified automatically. He seems to have created a book about his family, and that could be very interesting to hear about.

Jane, I forgot: My motivation for this searching came when I found three photos in my mother's house after she died this may. I have no names on the photos, but I think one photo very well could be of Amund and Randi with the three older children. It was taken by a photographer named J. Erickson, 315 Cedar Avenue, Minneapolis. Fortunately he had this very nice business information under the picture on the front. I found a list of who were operating as photographers by that time in Minneapolis, and Julius Erickson had his business on this adress in 1891-92. This match with the children's age I believe.

I'm sorry, Jan Peter, but since I'm not very experienced in this field, I have not done all my homework well. As I may had this unconscious, I have searched my own writings and other information. Olaf A Stømner is my grandfather's nephew. He is the oldest of nine children of Andreas Amundsen Sakrisrud, Amund Hansen Sjøenden's youngest son from the first marriage with Berte Johannesdatter Hærnes.

Hi Arne, I'm not sure what next - do you want records of Amund's children in the USA? My impression is that you have the resources to find what you need. I'll post a little anyway.

Thank you, Jane. When it comes to spending time on this, I have the resources because I retired three years ago. But I'm not very experienced in finding sources, so any information regarding relatives makes me very excited and grateful. I stumble upon some information now and then, but I don't have the knowledge or a coherent strategy for exploring ways to the sources. Now I found on Ancestry.com the family tree of Reed and Mary Lou Erickson in search for Amund Amundson, and in this tree Anton and Jennie Jacobsen appear. http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/4024570/family?fpid=6246018118 I submitted a wish on getting in contact. Maybe people with that amount of interest for family story are keen on more information about the ancestors. My next task will be to summarize for my own use an understandable information bank with all the information you and others provide about this topic. |
