Actually in addition to Gunnerius Johnson there were 3 heads of household in Boone county in 1870 born in Norway with the last name Johnson of such an age to be the father of someone born 1850. However the women in two of these remaining households are right at the edge of age viability.

In Cass Boone county Iowa
Mark Johnson 45 b Norway
Inger Johnson 32 b Norway
Joseph L Johnson 16 b Illinois
Julia C Johnson 14 "
Emily Johnson 12 "
Mary Johnson 8 "
Nellie Johnson 4 "
Rebecca Johnson 2 "

Probably Mark Johnson in 1850:

Here is his family in 1860 Illinois:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MXHC-C71

Mark Johnson marries again in 1884 in Boone, father called John Johnson:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XJC9-515

This may be his death record:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XVWL-CSZ

In Cass Boone county Iowa
Nelson Johnson 45 b Norway
Inger Johnson 50 b. Norway
Anna Johnson 12 b Norway
John A Johnson 6 b Norway

In Cass Boone county Iowa
John Johnson 44 b Norway
Hannah Johnson 33 b Norway
Christana Johnson 10 b Norway
Martha Johnson 4 b Norway
Hannah E Johnson 1 b Norway

There is no documentation, but it fits the family story of her having one brother, so it definitely got my attention. As I look at census records, I'll definitely be alert to any Johnson with a first name similar to Lewis.

Perhaps they are confusing your Betsy with this Betsy from Douglas twp Boone county, 1880:

Newton Johnson52 b Norway
Sarah Johnson 46 b Norway
Lewis Johnson 11 b Norway
Thomas Johnson 7 b Iowa
Rasmus Johnson 4 b Iowa
Annie Johnson 21 b Norway
Betsey Johnson 17 b Norway

The tree for Betsy that includes a sibling named Lewis has significant details about her, but only a name for him. So I don't think there is confusion with the family you found in Boone. I'm trying to find out who posted that tree or the entry for Lewis.

Lewis is an exceedingly uncommon name in Norway. Here are 3:

Lewis Johans. Flekkefjord 26.08.1881
Emigranter over Kristiania 1871-1930, redigert utgave

Lewis Johnson prest Amerika 04.08.1899
Emigranter over Kristiania 1871-1930, redigert utgave

Lewis Gilbert Johansen 28.03.1919 Bergen : Haukelandsveien 31D
01.02.1922 Kommunal folketelling 1922 for Bergen kjøpstad

Same search for Louis Jo* at the Digitalarkivet finds 122 which I'm not going to paste in. A large percentage of the 122 are Americans showing up in various Norwegian records.

Here is a marriage record for a Lewis Johnson b 1858 in Worth county. His parents are John Johnson and Martha Anderson.

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XJDW-H8F

And also very interesting here is a death record for a Lewis Johnson b 1858 whose father is John Johnson and mother Carrie in Wadena, Minnesota:

Lewis L Johnson who died in Wadena County has many Family Trees on Ancestry.com. I can find no evidence that he lived in Iowa. He married a Dina Larsen in Minnesota. So he is probably a different person than Lewis Johnson from Worth County who married Hattie Hansen.

This might be the Lewis Johnson of Worth County.

Here is the family leaving Ringsaker in 1859, 118
SAH, Ringsaker prestekontor, K/Ka/L0009: Parish register (official) no. 9, 1850-1860, p. 467
Quick link: https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/kb20070119310427

There is an older daughter than the Ellen in the 1870 census. She is named named Agnete and her birthdate is 20 Oct 1848 so no match for Betsy.

Looking at the US Census for people that could be related in some fashion to Betsy has not been very fruitful. First I tried to find parents or relatives of the age of Betsy's parents in Worth County with no luck. Next I tried the brother. This person pops up. Living with the family of L Amunsen.

H Johnson
in the 1870 United States Federal Census
Name: H Johnson
Age in 1870: 20
Birth Year: abt 1850
Birthplace: Norway
Home in 1870: Northwood, Worth, Iowa
Race: White
Gender: Male
Post Office: Northwood

Same census taker as for Betsy. On page 4 of the sheets, Betsy is on page 2. Same date.

Maybe this is his marriage. The only witnesses are the brides father and mother.

Halvor Johnson
in the U.S., Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Records, 1875-1940

Name: Halvor Johnson
Event Type: Marriage
Marriage Date: 22 Sep 1880
Marriage Place: Mitchell, Northwood, Iowa
Spouse: Christine Strómsten
Church Name: First Lutheran Church
Church Location: Northwood, Iowa

In 1900 living in Convent, Hyde, South Dakota with wife and large family. Listed as having immigrated in 1869.

There are three trees on Ancestry.com. Lots of info on the wife but nothing on the husband. No father or mother listed for Halvor Johnson. Called Halvor Theodore Jonson..

This version of his marriage record gives some parental info.

Name: Halvor Johnson
Birth Year: abt 1848
Gender: Male
Marriage Age: 32
Marriage Date: 20 Sep 1880
Marriage Place: Worth, Iowa, USA
Father: John Halvorson
Mother: Christine Larsen
Spouse: Berntine Christine Stromstein

Deja vu all over again. Here is a marriage for an H.J. Johnson in Worth county. He was born 1856 so a bit younger than your original. His parents are John Nelson and Martha Hanson:

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XJHK-82Z

Searching for Halvor Johnson in 1880 census of Worth county finds this one, two brothers and a mother:

Google found this at newspapers.com which I don't have access to.
"The Daily Plainsman from Huron, South Dakota · Page 9

In 1880 she was married to Halvor T. Johnson, a childhood acquaint- jonn iron «ope. simeimB "« » ance in Norway and came to Daj illness, danced to get ..."

Date on this is 1947. So maybe Christine and Halvor knew each other in Norway???

This may be Christine's parents' marriage:

In the actual record it says the father came from Bohusland which is in Sweden but I'm unable to figure out the inscription further.

Here is an online query which never got a response at Hyde county usgenweb paper:

"H. T. JOHNSON Family

Surnames: Johnson, Stromsten
Looking for information on the family (ascendants and descendants) of Halvor Theodor Sagen Johnson, b. 14 Sept 1848 Norway, m. Christina Bantina KNUDSON STROMSTEN 1880 in Lake Mills Iowa, d. 2 Sept 1923.

I have the info about them from the "Hyde Heritage 1880's-1977" book, but little else.

A real treat would be if anyone had any info on Halvor's great grandson Harvey Thomas JOHNSON of Highmore, b. 30 Oct 1957, m. Janice BECKER in 1975, d. 24 July 1989 in a truck accident. His oldest son Randy is my husband."
