Hi I would love any information about my husband's great grand father who was apparently Roald Amundsen's first cousin. His name was Ludwig Valle and he came to australia(Mooroopna)mid 19th century . We have been told that his father and Roald's mother were brother and sister but her maiden name was not Valle . Can anyone help ? Angela Riordan

A Roald Amundson connection is an often reported family tale. If you use the search feature on this site there are about 8 or so topics dealing with proposed & exposed connections. You might want to read through them to see if there's any connection.

There are a dozen or so Family Trees on Ancestry.com that contain a Ludwig Trulsen Valle born around 1860 in Norway. None of the Trees list a father or a mother for Ludwig. It may be just a coincidence but here is a Ludvig Trulsen living at Valle born 1860 in the 1865 Norwegian Census. . Click on the link below.

The information you provided on Henry Ludwig Trulsan Valle born 1860 in Norway fits very well with the Ludvig Trulsen listed in the 1865 Norwegian Census. Notice the mothers name of Maren Larsdatter ie Maren Larsen. Here is the link again. Click on it.

Your information does not fit very well with the information available on Hanna Sahlqvist the mother of Roald Amudsen. This post has a good discusion of the parents of Hanna Sahlqvist.

Ludvig Trulsen was born May 7, 1860. Parents were Truls Svendsen and Maren Larsdatter. See #52.

#52

Hmm, some repairs were needed.

The parents of Roald Engebregt Gravning Amundsen, born 16 Jul 1872 was Jens Ingebrigt Amundsen (1820–86) and wife Hanna Henrikke Gustava Sahlquist (1837–93).
Ludvig Trulsen was born May 7, 1860 his parents were Truls Svendsen and Maren Larsdatter, see #52 - so if you are right, Truls Svendsen and Hanna Henrikke Gustava Sahlquist should be brother and sister.

Hanna Henrikke Gustava Sahlquist was born Febr 16 1837, #26 - her parents were Gustav Sahlquist and Kirsten Wright.

Truls Svendsen was born April 21 1821, #47 - his parents were Svend Nielsen, Valle and Ane Marie Truelsdatter.

More about Kirsten Wright Larsen here:

http://sandefjord1801.wikispaces.com/128+KIRSTEN+WRIGHT+LARSEN

A possibility is that someone related to Ludvig Valle marries someone related to Roald Amundsen.

Perhaps a good idea to get further back in time before drawing conclusions even it`s not via Roald Amundsens mother Gustava Salquist.

Interesting link to the Wright family.
From Borge to Sandefjord is just crossing the Oslofjord.

I think perhaps it is a dead end
