Was the letter in English written after he had reached the South Pole?
On March 7. 1912 the Polar ship Fram arrived Hobart on Tasmania where Amundsen send a coded message to his brother who informed the king and Fritjof Nansen, the owner of Fram.

There is a good family tree for Truls Svendsen on Geni. The tree is manged by a Finn Espen Nygaard. There is a link through which you could contact him. Use this link.

GENI

Unfortunately there are no children listed for Truls Svendson in this family tree, however Finn Espen Nygaard might be able to provide some information on any known family connection to Roald Amundson.

You've been all over the board with the relationship between Roald Amundsen and your family. You started this topic off by saying that Ludvig Valle was a first cousin of Roald Amundsen. In the other post you said he was first or second cousin and now Ruth Valle (who was she? daughter of Ludvig?) is a niece of Roald Amundsen. Chill for a second.

I think you need to post the entire text of the letter from Amundsen, so that we all can evaluate it for necessary clues. That includes salutations and dates in the letter as well as the envelope.

The letter would have been of great interest.
Since it was written in English we can assume that Ludvig Valle was dead.
A relationship must be from the period after the mid. 1850s since R. Amundsen writes to his niece Ruth Valle.

Without the letter, my intention was to forward it to someone who knows more about Amundsen than I, there is nothing that shows an affinity to Roald Amundsen, the explorer.

It is less headaches to follow the Valle-Torp line furhter back.

My new information re the Valle connection to Roald Amundsen is that our line can be traced back to Mikkel Amundsen who was the father of Helle Amundsen (1705 -1782). But I do not know whether or not Mikkel is Roald's forbear. Also I have now a photocopy of the hand-written envelope which we believe was sent to Ruth Clarke (my husband's grand-mother) from Roald Amundsen. I understand he sent his official card or calling card inside the envelope and I also have a photocopy of this card. There is no writing only his printed name. I am interested to know if it would be worthwhile (or indeed possible) to post these on the site for verification. The card came from Norway but it is not possible to see the date Angela

I have not been able to attach the envelope and card but I have emailed it to Jane on this forum. She may have more expertise re posting an attachment.
The line we have established is this... Mikkel Amundsen was the father of Helle Mikkelsdatter (1705-1782) who was the mother of Jon Ingebretson (1736-1804) who was father of Michel Johnsen (1772-1809) ( husband of Anne Cathrine Syversdatter (1768-1838) ) father to Grethe Michelsdatter ( wife of Lars Hendrikson Torp)
mother 91798-1880) to Maren Larsdatter 1821 wife of Truls Svendson born 1821 mother of Ludwig Trulsen Valle. The Valle's came from Borge
