Thanks for pointing that out Jan Peter.

About Elmer - I presumed "Elmer" was an Americanization of "Hjalmar." It could have been a name by which he was called. Or perhaps in the 1900 census the census taker wrote "Almer" and the informant said "add an H. J. to that." Or...Who knows. His name is Hjalmar in other records.

1910 US census - H Jalmar L Blomsfield [Ancestry user cx to Hjalmar]
WWI draft registration - Hjalmar Luther Blomshield
1920 US census - Hjalmar L Blomshield
1930 US census - Hjalmar Blomshield
many listings in U.S. City Directories - Hjalmar L Blomshield
Michigan Deaths and Burials - Hjalmar L. Blomshield
Headstone: H. L. Blomshield
Find-a-grave, H. L. Blomshield buried Bloomdale Cemetery, Trenton, Wayne, Michigan. First wife Edna d 1924 and second wife Elizabeth d 1957 buried beside him:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Blomshield&GSiman=1&GScid=131&GRid=113537577&

Below, 1940 US census as transcribed. Original handwriting looks like Blomshield.

1940
Wyandotte, Wayne, Michigan
Hjalmar Blonshiald 53 b Michigan, registered civil engineer
Elizabeth Blonshiald 45 b Wisconsin
John Blonshiald 14 b Michigan
Ida Aubrey 72 mother-in-law

Anyway, here's a person who may be a descendant, Scott:

Great find -
and another family tree here:
"Etterkommere etter Hans Olsen og Lene Andersdtr. Skjellerudsveen"
http://home.sf-nett.no/olathors/Skjellerudsveen_Slektsbok.pdf

It's written in Norwegian; GramTrans is a useful online translation tool.

This tree, above, agrees with the findings of the forum but the forum has additional information to the tree (within the various threads). The tree opens by saying Hans Olsen Hovesveen, born 11 Feb 1809 at Sørhove øvre (Hovesveen) at Nordre Ål in Fåberg, Oppland, Norway, is the son of Ole Nilsen Hovesveen and Ingeborg Olsdatter, Aurlien. Hans was baptized at Lillehammer church.

And below, link to a Geni family tree that doesn't list Hans but does list his parents:

from Jan Peter

Thank you all. I'm just now getting a chance to discuss all of this with Todd. I was in a car wreck Wednesday. I was all excited to come home and tell him when a lady hit me in the driver side. Once I'm better I will dig for the photos and continue forward. I did not want any of you to think I left the forum or was not grateful for this information. I am so happy and cannot express my gratitude for what you all have done.

My wife is Bonnie, the eldest daughter of Shiela Macon, she is a first cousin of John Marx, son of Patricia Macon. We have many family photos from the early 1900s to the 1920s. We also have several portratis doen by John Wesley Blomshield, including a self-portrait done in 11935 when he was in India. We have several dozen of his oil paintings done in the 40s and 50s in New York. I have been researching the family history for 15 years or more. I have posted a "Blomshield Family Tree" on www. ancesrty.com. I have the first and second generations well underway. John Luther Hansen, the immigrant, took the name "Blomshield" when he arrived in this country and settled in Bay City, Michigan. The name originates with the "crest" that hung over his home in Norway, a shield with a flower on it. John was twice married. First to Wilhelmina Matilda Carlson (Swedish) and they had four children. I believe that she died in child birth with the daughter that bears her name. John remarried about a year later to Otilia J., the younger sister of "Minnie". They had one son. I am very happy to share what I have learned and give copies of documents, etc. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Patrica Macon was the daughter of Geraldine Blomshield Wagner and John L. Macon. Some confusion over the middle name. Licklin or Lacklan, working on hard copy eveidence. Geraldine was the daughter of Agnes Lydia Blomshield and Carl Petrus Wagner. Agnes was John "Wesley" Blomshield's sister.
