You are 100% right reg. the Norwegian naming tradition which ended ca 1900 after having lasted for more than 1000 years (There were exceptions)
Iceland is the only country still uses this naming practice.

Both Bokmċl and Nynorsk are official languages.
Many dialects in Norway are often more different than Bokmċl and Nynorsk.
