Hello, new to the site. Looking for information on Tosten Moholt Stendahl and/or Johanna Bergitte Berg who immigrated from Trondheim... Tosten was born in Klabu and Johanna in Trondheim. Story says the Stendahl name came from the farm they lived on in Trondheim, Steindal. I've never been able to successfully search for the farm name but have some pictures from the early 1900's of a farm called South Steindal. Any help would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Josh Stendahl

Info for background of how Stendahl is connected to Tosten Moholt is probably this tree.

The marriage record for Torsten Olsen, Moholdt and widow Johanna Bergithe Ebbesdatter, Stendahl is #6, date for the marriage was April 27 1856.

Their son Olaf was born on Stendahl July 17 1858, see #108.
The son Ole Elias was born June 3 1857, see #81.

The confirmation record for Johanna Bergitha Ebbesdatter, Berg is #27, she was born Oct 5 1827 and baptized in Domkirken Jan 6 1828. Her father had died before 1842.
The baptismal record is #20. Her father was sailor Ebbe Tønnesen, Berg and the mother Bereth Pedersdatter, they were living in Dronningens gate.

Ebbe Tønnesen, Berg and Bereth Pedersdatter was married Nov 30 1826, see #68.

The marriage record for Johanna Bergithe Ebbesdatter, Heydahl and Ole Arntsen, Rye is #4, date is April 11 1849.

Ole Arntsen, Rye bought Søndre Steindal 1854. In 1859 when Johanna Bergithe Ebbesdatter was married to Torsten (Torkild) Olsen the farm was sold on an auction.
I believe this is the origine of Tosten Olsen's Stendahl name.

The family moved out from Strinda 1861, see #45-50.

The son Arnt 10 1/2 years old was born Oct 10 1850, father Ole Arntsen, Rye (Johanna Bergitha's first husband), see #110.

Great!!
Read through what I could on the Strinda Wiki.
I know that some of the family didn't immigrate...
I know some of the notes I had indicated that Berrit Christina Rye stayed in Norway with her grandparents and married a Odeen Hougen who was a sea captain and they lived in Trondheim. Most of their kids immigrated to the states but again the notes I have indicate Johan and Elfreda stayed in Trondheim and never immigrated... is there any way to see if they married or had children? Also, is there anything there that would indicate Tosten or Johanna had family that may have stayed behind?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Josh

Is there any indication of siblings for Torsten or Johanna?
Also, the notes I have show Ole Hansen Nasset as being born in 1791 Klabu to Hans Olsen Tellugen and Olava Jacobsdatter Bjerkli, any confirmation?
Notes I have show Marit Torkildatter being born in 1793 to Torkel Nielson and Marit Olsdatter. Marit being born in 1761.
Notes I have show Ebbe Tonneson Berg being born in 1786 in "Parish of Ease of Bakklandt" and being born to Tonnes Anderson and Johanna Jacobsdatter
Finally I show Berit Pedersdatter Brenne being born in Strinda in 1797 to Peder Olsen Rostad and Guru Larsdatter. Guru being born in 1775.

You'd have to look for additional children born to Torsten and Johanna's parents to know if they had siblings. Those would be recorded in the parishes where they were born (unless the parents moved).

You can start checking the info you have IF you have good notes about WHERE the event happened.

The detail available in the extensive parish church records is a marvelous gift from Norway. The Digitalarkivet web site has been adding scanned images of the original Norwegian parish church records for anyone with Internet access since November 2005. To be able to use the parish records you must first know WHERE in Norway you want to search for this documentation.

The Digitalarkivet web site - (http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&tekst=meldingar)
An English option is available by clicking on that word from either the left hand column or the blue link bar along the bottom of the homepage.
The scanned images are available from the homepage link "Skanna kyrkjebøker" [Norwegian version]/"Digitised parish records" [English version] which is listed along the left hand column and from the blue banner of links along the top section of the homepage.
When you click on that link another page will present a short list of choices - choose "Read the digitized parish registers"[English version]/"Lesa skanna kykrebøker" [Norwegian version].
After you've clicked on that link and a new main page has presented on the screen be sure and read the instructions that are available from the Digitalarkivet for navigating the scanned records. The instructions are available in Bokmål (official Norwegian), Nyorsk (Norwegian), Davvisámegiella (Saami), and English.
Recommended basic reading are the "Startsiden" [Norwegian version]/"Main page" [English version], "Brukerveiledning" [Norwegian version]/"User's guide" [English version] and "Om tjenesten" [Norwegian version]/"About this service" [English version].

Good information about translating the formats of Norwegian parish church records during various time periods, many of the basic terms used and understanding how to use the information should be studied at this web site -

Question about Tosten Stendahl.
There maybe a chance that Tosten had a daughter prior to marrying his wife based on the information in the link below.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FD6N-1ZX

Was wondering if anyone could help me find any information in Norway to prove this out. This would be news to the family.

Tosten was known as Torklid, Tosten, Thorsten and had the surname Olsen, Moholt, and Stendahl in the states. As far as I know he primarily lived in Klaebu and Trondheim.
Thanks for any help.

Arnt Olsen, who emigated with the family in 1861, was Johanna Ebbesdatters child with her first husband Ole Arntsen, #110.

No hit for Randi. More info from US would be beneficial.

She is listed as Realda Brekke in 1900 US census Oakland, Freeborn County, Minnesota, born Aug 1846 migrated 1878, widowed head of household.

This might be Randi b. 10 Aug 1846 Aurland Sogn og Fjordane

Tosten Moholt Stendahl who was married to Johanna Bergitte Berg is not the Tosten Olsen, Stundal being the father of Randi Brekke.

Randi Brekke was actually Randi Tostensdatter, she took the farm name from her husband who came from Brække.

(The husbands name in the outmigrating record is wrong, they had two sons and Randis sister Oline is travelling with them.)
