I have recently started researching my Norwegian family heritage and have come across some death records of my great great grandfather, Johannes Anderssen Espleland. He was born in 1858 passed in 1934, and is buried in the Bekkstranda Sande cemetary. His wife's name was Malena Berntine Magnesdatter who was born in 1859. I believe they were married in Arna, Hordaland in April of 1883. Their children, Kristoffer Marthen and Margit, emigrated to Vancouver, Canada. My grandfather received a small inheritance from Norway in the 1980's, but the paperwork is no where to be found in the items he left behind. I am looking for information about immigration of these family members and to connect with any possible living descendents. Any tips for my research would be great!

There are privacy laws in Norway too -- you'll run into time limits on much recent information is open to the public.

You are looking for living relatives in Norway.
Few Norwegians has a family tree online.
The more information that is published in your topic, the more increases the chance that someone finds this pages.

The inheritance was probably send from Strømmen, Sande municipality, Vestfold County.
There are Espelands living in Sande today.

Bekkestranda chapell in Sande

Malene Berentines father, Magne Larsen, Fosse, died Sept 15 1858, #82, ie 6 months before she was born and baptized as an "uægte" child.

Her mother, Synneva Brynildsdatter, was born Aug 13 1838, #116 - her parents were Brynnild Johannesen and Maria Nielsdatter, Linnæsejet.
