Interesting exhibition David.
I also found an intersting project on BBC LEARNING called Blood of the Vikings on 5 episodes.
Episode 1
Episode 2
Episode 3
Episode 4
Episode 5

A DNA or Y-cromosone project has also started recently in Norway where men from dif. municipalities who have ancestors going 5 generations or more back to find out where the Vikings who settled down on the British Isles came from in Norway.

I was just going to post about this. On the British Museum Special Exhibition site, you can look up Old Norse Origin names of cities and towns in Britain. I found it very interesting. http://www.britishmuseum.org/whats_on/exhibitions/vikings/vikings_live/old_norse_origins.aspx

Yes, the map is a really useful aid - I found lots of Viking connected names near the village in northern England where I grew up, never having an inkling of their origin.

I should have posted that an Arnesen cousin and I went to the exhibition about a month ago. Some fascinating displays, especially the full scale reconstruction of a Viking boat hull..

But if any Heritage site members plan to go - get there early !!! It was sure crowded on the Saturday we visited

Have any of you been watching "The Vikings" on the History Channel? I just finished watching Season 2 and it was quite good. I've heard that I need to watch the British version, as it has more detail. Will do that online. It follows the Snorri Sturlason sagas, but not sure how closely it follows them.
